I tell my wife that the human hearing range is between 20 Hz and 20kHz and that if she wants me to remember things she told me, she should try not to tell me things in a voice outside of that range...

Before I retired, I was a Reliability Engineer and was certified in things like Oil Analysis, Vibration Analysis, etc. One of the technologies used in Predictive Maintenance is Ultrasonic Analysis which is a device that actually can detect those frequencies and convert them to a sound you could hear; so you could listen to bearings running, hear steam and air leaks in a running manufacturing plant and so on. I would usually accompany that statement by saying something like "if this is important, let me go get the Ultrasonic "gun" and we'll make sure I get this..."
