I know there are many threads on speaker upgrades and wiring... I am not trying to completely rehash or argue any of that..... But I did have a question(s)/situation, I thought maybe someone could help me out with.
This would relate to someone that has access to professional audio equipment or works in the industry, has NOT already upgraded their front upper dash/soundbar or someone that actually tested their soundbar speakers polarity BEFORE upgrading to new speakers.
What I'm doing:
I am replacing all four(4) of the 3-1/2" speakers in a 2022 JTRD with an upgraded Alpine system.
What I have done:
I replaced the front two(2) upper dash speakers. I thought I could go off of the wiring diagram being passed around on the JT/JL forums.... so I DID NOT do a polarity check(with a polarity checker/app) or note the orientation of the speaker wires prior to uninstalling the actual speakers. (wish that I would have). I did not need to "battery" test the new speakers because they were clearly marked + / -..... But I did need to figure out which wire from the head unit supplied the positive signal, so I use a multimeter to determine this. Based on my readings, it was opposite of the diagram floating around, so I had to revere the factory speaker wires to correlate with what my multimeter readings were.
What I am currently doing:
After it was suggested by another member, I downloaded a polarity app for Android (Polarity Checker) and used it to test the front upper dash speakers that I replaced. When testing using the app... they "POPPED" green ... which if I interrupt this correctly means they are wired with positive polarity. As reference, I also checked the kick panel knee speakers and they also "POPPED" green..... So in my mind even after switching the oem speaker wires , all four(4) speakers are wired with a positive polarity and are wire correctly.
What I need to do:
I still need to replace the rear soundbar 3-1/2 speakers.
My issue/question:
Issue: Using the polarity checker app, I tested each side of the rear soundbar. I noticed that the smaller 3-1/2" speakers both "POPPED" red and both of the 4" speakers "POPPED" green. This initially tells me that my soundbar is speakers are wired with "inverted polarity"..... So where the front 3-1/2" speakers really wired backwards ?? Or where they wired that way to match the soundbar speakers ?
Question: Can anyone confirm prior to making any changes to their system, what the polarity of the soundbar speakers are ? I know in some cases "inverted polarity" is desired. Is this the case with the Jeeps audio system ? Are the two enclosed speakers on each side of the soundbar reversed from the factory on purpose ? seems odd to me all four(4) of the 3-1/2" speakers would pop red and all four(4) of the larger 4" speakers would pop green unless designed to do so.
Thoughts ? Gets really confusion really quick !
