I think in three years I’ve only had it happen four times maybe five at this point I’m 90% sure it’s one particular pump nozzle at one particular place if I was smart I would make note of where and which pump it was but I’m not that smart and it doesn’t happen that often
Final (anticlimactic) update-it’s replaced, no explanation given other than it was defective. Only took them 1.5 hours to do it, so, kind of impressive really.
I guess I’ll see if this one starts spitting gas in a year or so
Also, crawled under there to inspect the work and no wonder these things are prone to overflow, the filler neck is a 1” tube! For anyone out of warranty it looks like a straight forward repair that wouldn’t even require dropping the tank. For reference the part that was replaced was 68334985-AE which is the actual part up in the bedside behind the fuel door. Couldn’t get a good pic but here’s the downstream line (which wasn’t replaced)
