Hey all, continuing my build and am hoping to push a bit more to the Overland side. This will primarily be used in Colorado and Utah.

I'm looking for a starting point and wondering if any of you have a list of all the gear you take on a small, multi-day trip, say 3-5 max.
I'm sure one of you uses Excel too much!!

List, website, youtube.. let me know where to find a starting point so I can prioritize my purchases coming up.

Thanks!

What kind of (camping) overlanding are you doing? Tent? RTT? Camper? Trailer? Water jugs or tank, filter for water, propane or whatever suits your needs for cooking. First aid kit. Fridge/freezer if going that route. Solar setup or jackery style battery source. Plus solar panels to charge.
No bed rack yet for RTT? If going that route.

I'll be going with RTT and/or off road trailer. Kids are growing up and we're a family of 5.

This is what I use as my pre trip checklist for gear. It doesn’t have everything on it, but includes all the things I have forgotten before so far.
Looks a heck of a lot like my list. I’d also include an air pump. Maybe its on there, but I didn’t see it.

My compressor never leaves my Jeep and I haven’t ever forgotten it so it hadn’t made the list yet!

I use large totes and pack things into “cubes” depending on function…

Cook cube
Camp cube
Sleep cube
Etc…

It’s easy to go overboard on storage solutions, but i use cheap totes since I’ve got a tonneau cover.

I’d also add a battery pack and handheld radios to the list. Doesn’t even need to be a big battery pack if you’re near your vehicle, but something to charge small devices (phones, Bluetooth speaker, radios) is handy.

When I got started a few years back I used Overland Bound's checklist and found it pretty helpful. Started with the 3 box system and expanded from there for our needs. Basically just helped me compartmentalize things and always have things ready to grab and go. Not in the "bugout" sense, but moreso to not need to prep for hours before leaving on a family weekend trip. Sometimes takes me longer to get the family clothing bags packed than the rest of the gear lol! Started with a Subaru Outback and then expanded with the Gladiator, but really it's the same gear for any car I use. Hope this helps.
