I recently got my truck back from the dealorship for paint repair. The hood, door, and frame around windshield. The body shop said it was a manufacturing problem when building the parts. The aluminum and magnesium components were not treated or in direct contact with each other at the seams causing corrosion. They replaced the hood and frame and painted them.

They painted the top of the hood too match the body but the underside was just the base coat with no gloss. Is this normal or are they being lazy? I want it exactly like factory.

I am also getting a whistling sound when driving over 60. Anyone else experience that?

Have any pictures? Some of the current colors are very difficult to match.

The color match is fine. I'm talking about the underside (engine side) of the hood. It was just painted with the base coat and NO clear coat on top. So it has a flat texture that isnt as durable and harder to clean.

I've had a JLU and two JTs and all of them have been that way. Base coat only on non-exposed surfaces.

Thank you. I couldn't remember. My other vehicles were painted with clear on the supports but not under the heat shield.

For your whistle - check to see if any glued foam or insulation is missing along the cowl. I bet they removed some to paint and never put it back. The smallest piece can matter a lot. May be hard to notice without comparing it side by side with one that hasn't been messed with.

Was it corrosion? I don't think it's been reported on the Gladiator. Would be great to know. It was running through my Wrangler at an incredible pace.

It basically looks like rust bubbling through the paint. Wranglers in the past are known for terrible frame rust but this is actually different. The parts that are aluminum and magnesium bonded together are treated so that the two materials don't touch. When they do come in contact they cause corrosion. In my case the hood, windshield frame, and driver side door all had it.

The body shop manager said it is most likely caused by worn or damaged tooling during those parts manufacturing. Not likely to be a super wide spread thing if they caught it. But since the parts are made separate from the rest of the vehicle it could be mixed in with various final builds I would think.
