I actually got one of those 2 months ago. It was a whole fiasco. It was for a Ford Fiesta ST, that I traded back in 2016. Philly police were auctioning it off. I said go ahead.

Delaware is the same way. Pass through state for the majority to interstate and down state traffic to the beaches. When Hurricane Sandy wiped out the Jersey and New York area beaches, only made it worse.

Friday through Sunday it is majority New York and PA plates clogging up the roads. State makes it money though as the tolls down state to the beaches go up on the weekend.

I'm one of those PA plates on the weekend and I take 13 so I don't even pay the tolls!

We do love the DE beaches though. I had a surf fishing permit last year and we often take day trips because it's less than 3 hours away.

About a year ago, PA EzPass sent me a toll ticket with a picture of a DE license plate that had been mine 6 years ago but was turned in back then when I sold the truck. DE had reissued that to someone else but whatever database PA EzPass uses did not have that drivers and vehicle info so they sent the ticket to me. Sent a note back and called those retards that the plate no longer belonged to me. They still will not pull the ticket and I get notice from them every few months..

They want me to prove to them it was not me and I keep telling them it is on them to prove it was me. They do not get it.

That's why I don't return plates. I simply cut them up and put them in the recycle bin. I just got my Wife a personalized plate for her '19 Grand Cherokee Ltd. that is SLVA UKR (Slava Ukraine, meaning Glory to Ukraine) because she's Ukrainian. She LOVES it and all her friends are jealous The original plate on her car? Cut it up and put it in the recycle bin even though the state sent me an address to mail (of course at MY expense) the original plate back to for recycling. I'll do it myself, thank you, to simply avoid the possibility of what you just went through there, Hootbro.

Delaware is a weird state when it comes to license plates. Due to it being a small state they reuse the plate numbers regardless if you turn in the physical plate off your old vehicle or not.

Once Delaware DMV gets notice your vehicle has been sold and regardless if your old plate has or has not been turned in, your plate number gets thrown back into the available pool of issued numbers and a new physical plate with your old number gets issued to the next person in line at the DMV. So my PA EzPass issue would have happened regardless of what I did with the physical plate off my sold truck.

Delaware also has a weird thing where basically can own a certain plate number or vanity plate for perpetuity so long as it remains a valid registered plate that can be transferred to successive vehicles and even sold and/or transferred to family, friends or another Delaware resident. Low number plates like triple digits and below are a status symbol with double digit plates held by old money families across many generations. It was about 10 years ago when I seen the DE "JEEP" vanity plate came up for sale and it sold for $4K dollars.

Did you actually go into your EZPass account and remove that plate number from it?

When I got my Wife's new plate, I went in and changed it on my account to reflect it on her vehicle.

Ergo, if you deleted that plate number from your EZPass account, then it should be no longer tied to you.

But for a little further you can go to Assateaugue and not have to to be "actively fishing" while on the beach. That and the limited number of out of state permits annually available are the only things keeping me from getting a DE surf permit.

Before I retired. My work schedule had me off every other weekend for 5 days. We left the camper at Castaways campground for the summer. So every other weekend, we would be at the campground.

Yea we've definitely gotta get to Assateugue, I've heard a lot of good things there. I only had the permit for the first time last year and didn't get to use it as much as I would have liked, so I probably won't get another for a little while. The do become avaliable in I think December or January and if you apply for one when they come out, you'll be able to get it.

We need to get to OBX too, it would be a lot of fun with the Jeep. We do drive down further to Hilton Head every other year. That's probably my favorite of the spots we go to regularly. Hudson's is my restaurant of choice there.

Assateague is a good spot. The only catch is the limit of vehicles on the beach. Weekends can and do fill up fast but midweek I've never waited longer than it takes me to air down and with around 17 miles and a max of 150 vehicles its pretty spread out. You're not doing high speed Mojave-runs down the beach and NPS patrols heavily. They don't like it when people put up RTT's for shade.

The permit is kinda pricey but it does get you access to the entire national seashore even if you're not off roading.
