1. Introduction
1.1 Tips
- Do not mix power steering fluid types; severe damage may result if a different fluid is used
- Material standard is MS-11655
- ATF+4 does not comply with MS-11655
- Do not overfill power steering fluid reservoir
- Top off reservoir when engine is cold (to a point halfway between the MIN line and the MAX line)
- Reminder: Keep remaining fluid for future top-off
1.2 Part Numbers and Material Standards
- The correct part number, for MOPAR ELECTRIC STEERING PUMP FLUID, is 68088485AB (supersedes 68088485AA)
- Either one of two material standards, MS-11655 or MS.90030, may appear on the label
- MS-11655 is the material standard associated with part number 68088485AB on page 38 of the MOPAR VEHICLE LUBRICANT & CHEMICAL CATALOG (2024); please see my post on Key Info for the link to the catalog
- MS-11655 appears on the label of this part as verified at my Jeep dealership in Texas (on January 13, 2022, and October 10, 2025)
- MS-11655 is the most common point of reference, for this fluid, used by aftermarket brands
- MS.90030 appears on the label of this part as offered for sale by at least one large online retailer
- MS.90030 (or simply 90030, as a search term) does not appear in the MOPAR VEHICLE LUBRICANT & CHEMICAL CATALOG (2024)
- A photo lineup of three label variants is attached at the end of this post
1.3 Price Indexes
Notes
- The calcs in this review are intuitive, but having one ratio for each scenario (single job or multiple jobs) simplifies the comparisons
- The parts guy at my local dealer advised me that two (16 fl oz) containers of power steering fluid are required for this job; I attempted to find the best-fit, single-container size for each power steering fluid option (no multipacks or bulk quantities)
- Power steering fluid capacity is not published in the internal dealer spec sheet, but it must be more than 16 fl oz and not more than 32 fl oz
Indexes
- Price index per single job simplifies price comparisons for a single job
- Top aftermarket pick for single job: AMSOIL 100% Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Power Steering Fluid (option 2.2 below)
- Price index per fl oz simplifies price comparisons for multiple jobs
- Top aftermarket pick for multiple jobs: AMSOIL 100% Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Power Steering Fluid (option 2.2 below)
1.4 Fluid Equivalence Rating Summary
Adapted from my post, Fluid Equivalence Ranking System
- OEM original: Option 2.1 (MOPAR 68088485AB, MS-11655)
- Specific equivalent: Options 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, & 2.8 (compliant with MS-11655)

- It is assumed that fluid capacity (unpublished) is more than 24 fl oz and less than 32 fl oz
The following table is a reordered and delinked subset of the preceding table:
OEM Equivalence of Selected Brands of Power Steering Fluid
that Specify MS-11655
Brand | Part Number | Fluid Oz | Fluid Type | MS-11655 Specified | Equivalence Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MOPAR | 68088485AB | 16 | Syn* | Yes | OEM original |
| AMSOIL | PSFCN-EA | 16 | Syn | Yes | Specific |
| LIQUI MOLY | 22182 | 33.8 | Syn | Yes | Specific |
| PENTOSIN | 1405116 | 33.8 | Syn | Yes | Specific |
| RED LINE | 30404 | 32 | Syn | Yes | Specific |
- * MOPAR 68088485AB is assumed to be synthetic
- A specific equivalent is an aftermarket fluid with the OEM material standard (MS- or MS.) number stated on the label or on the aftermarket manufacturer's website
2.1 MOPAR Electric Steering Pump Fluid
Part number: 68088485AB
Material standard: MS-11655
Size: 1 pint (16 fl oz)
Fluid type: Synthetic
Note: The word "synthetic" is not stated on either the label or the MOPAR eStore, but the fluid type can be inferred from the fact that each of the specific equivalents (compliant with MS-11655) reviewed in this post is a synthetic fluid
Equivalence rating: OEM original
Price index per single job (September 2025): 1.00 = (2 X $27.85)/(2 X $27.85) = baseline OEM price index per single job
Price index per fl oz (September 2025): 1.00 = ($27.85/16)/($27.85/16) = baseline OEM price index per fl oz
Comment: I will use this fluid, by default, even though the prices of AMSOIL and RED LINE are much lower
2.2 AMSOIL 100% Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Power Steering Fluid
Product code: PSFCN-EA
UPC: Contact AMSOIL if you need the universal product code (as a rule, AMSOIL does not display an image of the back label on the web)
Size: 1 pint (16 fl oz)
Fluid type: Synthetic
Equivalence rating: Specific equivalent (compliant with MS-11655)
Price index per single job (September 2025): 0.39 = (2 X $10.89)/(2 X $27.85) = 39% of OEM price per single job
Price index per fl oz (September 2025): 0.39 = ($10.89/16)/($27.85/16) = 39% of OEM price per fl oz
Comment: Overall top aftermarket pick; this fluid has the second-highest fire point, is tied for the highest flash point, and has the third-lowest pour point (after extremely cold weather brands) of any (aftermarket) product in this review; I will use this fluid, without hesitation, because it is a specific equivalent (compliant with MS-11655) and the manufacturer is reputable; customers outside of the U.S. should consider consumer protection laws before using any aftermarket product for a vehicle that is under warranty
2.3 RED LINE SYNTHETIC OIL Full Synthetic Power Steering Fluid
SKU: 30404
UPC: 0 83522 30404 7
Size: 1 quart (32 fl oz)
Fluid type: Synthetic
Equivalence rating: Specific equivalent (compliant with MS-11655)
Price index per single job (September 2025): 0.28 = ($15.49)/(2 X $27.85) = 28% of OEM price per single job
Price index per fl oz (September 2025): 0.28 = ($15.49/32)/($27.85/16) = 28% of OEM price per fl oz
Comment: Top aftermarket pick for value and performance; this fluid has the highest fire point of any (aftermarket) product in this review, and the pour point is nearly as low as that of AMSOIL; some test results, including flash point, are not listed on the product data sheet; I will use this fluid, without hesitation, because it is a specific equivalent (compliant with MS-11655), the manufacturer is reputable, and the customer base is hard-core
2.4 PENTOSIN CHF 11S
Product number: 1405116
EAN: 4 008849 503016
Size: 1 liter (33.8 fl oz)
Fluid type: Synthetic
Equivalence rating: Specific equivalent (compliant with MS-11655)
Price index per single job (September 2025) = 0.75 = $41.99/(2 X $27.85) = 75% of OEM price per single job
Price index per fl oz (September 2025) = 0.71 = ($41.99/33.814)/($27.85/16) = 71% of OEM price per fl oz
Comment: Top aftermarket pick for extremely cold weather; this fluid has the second-lowest pour point of any (aftermarket) product in this review, but this comes at a substantial price premium; no published wear test result; I will use this fluid, without hesitation, if MOPAR 68088485AB, AMSOIL, and RED LINE options are unavailable because it complies with MS-11655
Note on PENTOFLUID EHF European Power Steering and Central Hydraulic Fluid, product number 1405115 (also made by PENTOSIN): Even though this fluid was used by a Jeep dealer service department, as a substitute for MOPAR 68088485AB when supply chain issues affected parts availability in 2023, I will not use this fluid because 1) I was not able to find clear evidence of material standard compliance in writing from the manufacturer, and 2) the distributor makes no mention, either on the product data sheet or in a promotional video, of the type of fluid; this information can only be found on the SDS (see "oil-based" on page 2); this product has no marketing info on fluid type and an incorrect part number reference on the product data sheet
2.5 LIQUI MOLY Central hydraulic system oil 2600, Fully Synthetic Power Steering Fluid
SKU: 22182
EAN: 4 100420 221866 (this EAN is possibly for a case of 20 X 1-liter bottles, which are then sold individually)
Size: 1 liter (33.8 fl oz)
Fluid type: Synthetic
Equivalence rating: Specific equivalent (compliant with MS-11655)
Price index per single job (September 2025) = 0.48 = $26.99/(2 X $27.85) = 48% of OEM price per single job
Price index per fl oz (September 2025) = 0.46 = ($26.99/33.814)/($27.85/16) = 46% of OEM price per fl oz
Comment: Top aftermarket pick for relative (to cold weather) value and extremely cold weather; this fluid has the lowest pour point and is tied for the highest flash point; some test results, including fire point and low-temp viscosity, are not listed on the product data sheet; an EAN for the individually-sold, 1-liter container is not verifiable because an image of the back label is difficult to find on the internet; I will use this fluid, without hesitation, if other options are unavailable because it complies with MS-11655 and the manufacturer is reputable
2.6 ROYAL PURPLE SYNTHETIC OIL MAXEZ High Performance Power Steering Fluid & Conditioner
Stock number: 01326
UPC: 6 41330 01326 3
Size: 12 fl oz
Fluid type: Synthetic
Equivalence rating: General equivalent ("recommended for any hydraulic power steering system, including...Chrysler")
Price index per single job (September 2025): 0.28 = (3 X $5.25)/(2 X $27.85) = 28% of OEM price per single job
Note: It is assumed that fluid capacity (unpublished) is more than 24 fl oz and less than 32 fl oz
Price index per fl oz (September 2025): 0.25 = ($5.25/12)/($27.85/16) = 25% of OEM price per fl oz
Comment: I will use this fluid, without hesitation, if other options are unavailable because the manufacturer is reputable and the fluid is a general equivalent; however, the power steering fluid market has other, specific equivalent fluid options that perform better in the lab
2.7 Prestone MAX European Power Steering Fluid + Stop Leak
Part number: AS278
UPC: 7 97496 88176 2
Size: 12 fl oz (I was unable to find a 1-quart size in the Euro blend)
Fluid type: Synthetic
Equivalence rating: Single-point inferred equivalent (using the product finder on the Prestone website, this fluid is rated "Best Choice - Vehicle Specific"); the "single point", for the equivalence rating, is the product finder; the match in the product finder is for a 2020 Gladiator equipped with a gasoline engine (not diesel; just reporting the facts)
Price index per single job (September 2025): 0.81 = (3 X $14.99)/(2 X $27.85) = 81% of OEM price per single job
Note: It is assumed that fluid capacity (unpublished) is more than 24 fl oz and less than 32 fl oz
Price index per fl oz (September 2025): 0.72 = ($14.99/12)/($27.85/16) = 72% of OEM price per fl oz
Comment: I will use this fluid, without hesitation, if other options are unavailable because the manufacturer is reputable and the fluid is an inferred equivalent
Note on additional Prestone search result: Although Prestone Power Steering Fluid + Stop Leak (part number AS263) also qualifies as a single-point inferred equivalent, I am not listing this Prestone product as an option because it is a conventional fluid (see the first tip at the beginning of this article); this conventional fluid does not match either of the two criteria (MS-11655, or synthetic fluid type) by which to compare power steering fluids for a Jeep Gladiator; a compliance statement (via the Prestone product finder) from an aftermarket manufacturer needs to be based on more than just brand recognition: in the case of this conventional power steering fluid, the evidence of compliance is thin
2.8 LUBEGARD COMPLETE Multi-Vehicle Formula Synthetic Power Steering Fluid
Part number: 23232
UPC: 0 83137 23232 2
Size: 1 quart (32 fl oz)
Fluid type: Synthetic
Equivalence rating: Specific equivalent (compliant with MS-11655)
Price index per single job (September 2025): 0.31 = $16.99/(2 X $27.85) = 31% of OEM price per single job
Price index per fl oz (September 2025): 0.31 = ($16.99/32)/($27.85/16) = 31% of OEM price per fl oz
Comment: By listing this lesser-known brand of synthetic power steering fluid, I am expanding the field to include another product that states compliance with MS-11655; I will consider using this power steering fluid when the full slate of fluid properties is published online; the wear scar test result is excellent, but this is just one of several tests

3.2 Aftermarket Fluid Properties
Notes
- The order in which properties are displayed is the same for each fluid below, but the display order varies in the source documents
- In some cases, the basis or the label of a unit of measure is different
- Kinematic vs. Brookfield for low-temp viscosity (different basis)
- cSt = mm²/s (without getting technical, these two units of measure have the same meaning)
