Product Review: Himal Tailgate Mtn Bike Pad

Hi all,

I got this tailgate pad for Christmas and was able to check it out today.

I went for this model because all the other options seemed too wide.
The construction is really nice. Soft underside to protect the paint. It can hold 5 bikes across.

The flap to access the tailgate handle is fine. No camera access though :/

My bike is a Polygon Siskuo D7 size medium 27.5“ model. Haha this really shows how shallow these beds are when viewing from the side.

My only gripe is its a little tough to get the straps up through the base of the tailgate since you have to push them UP toward you when installing on the bed. But I think that’s the only way the product can work without having the straps showing on the outside of the tailgate (if that makes sense?).

All in all I’m happy with it. I’m excited for summer and to load up the beers and the boys and head for the mountains!

I have considered something similar, will this not scratch the tailgate? Car covers used outdoors always chafe the paint and this is probably no different. Most of the dirt will be flying up under there etc. Just wondering etc...

I’ll have to grab a pic of the underside of the cover. It’s soft, almost a microfiber material. I made sure to wash the tailgate before installing but once on clean paint it‘s softer than say a beach towel or moving blanket which is what I had before haha.
