I received a notice from our Police Department that many Wranglers and Gladiators are being stolen and taken to Mexico. They put a scanner tool into the OBD2 port, initiate a scan, and create an electronic key to start the vehicle. There are many available. I purchased this one on Amazon for about $50.

No link. Thieves also use the port behind the glove box.

In my opinion, it’s better to assume that they’ve figured out how to clone the key fob without that access. The way to prevent many, but probably not 100%, of these is to interrupt the fuel pump and starter relays. How you do that is up to you. But do some reading and there are good cheap ways to do it. Beyond that, independent cellular tracking that has nothing to do with your head unit or Oem parts.

Yeah, that isn't going to help on a Jeep. It might make people feel secure, but no, it won't stop them.
Access to the star connector behind the glove box lets them do the job.
Sorry, a waste.

Yep. I have a kill switch in my diesel truck that is run through the ignition. However, if I am going to be parked somewhere and I am highly concerned about theft, I pull the fuel shutoff solenoid relay under the hood. Takes 10 seconds. There is no starting the truck without having one on hand. It will crank until the battery is dead. No thief would carry one.

I have all of these listed items in place, plus a few more. It would be very difficult to steal, even with a tow truck. If Hannibal Smith shows up with a helicopter, it’s gone. Happy to discuss in detail with anyone interested. But not in a public thread.

Some of the stuff we talked about that one evening on the phone? Yeah, not something to discuss. I'd not even say exactly what you disabled in public. Make someone figure it out!
Even just listing the things disabled gives someone with extensive Jeep knowledge a leg up, IMO.

If it's wireless can they then in fact hack the wireless part of the system effectively bypassing it?
It's just a damned relay - anyone familiar with Jeep knows that most systems disable a relay in some way. And - that's easy enough to get around.
It will be effective for those looking for quick and simple, but otherwise - anyone who can troubleshoot will know what's up.

The wireless would be fine until your remove battery went dead.

To bypass it - pull it out, plug in a standard relay, move on.
I've had to bypass relays while doing troubleshooting - an assortment of jumpers and a couple of standard relays, you are off to the races

If I want that vehicle and have 5 minutes, open hood, pop off cover from fuse panel, swap in what's needed, move on.
Since all Jeep Wranglers and JTs since 2018/2020 use the same - any smart thief after a Jeep will know the tricks. Heck, all they have to do is do an AI search and the forums will tell them.

I highly doubt most thieves are bringing relays and things with them. They are picking the easiest targets. There is no perfect theft prevention device for anything, it's about making it more complicated for them so they move onto something easier.
