So some of us are just starting out in careers and the JT is the first new/nice vehicle bought/financed. As such we cant always buy everything we want at once or even in the condition we want. For those in that situation or who have been there, where do you draw the line on used/takeoffs? Do you care if parts like bumpers are dirty, scratched, or dented? Rails? How about wheels that much have scuffs? Or interior parts that show wear. Prices for these accessories and parts are really good, and they function fine. Just cosmetic problems.

For example, this Mopar bumper off of a JK/JL for $150. Would you put it on your new JT to avoid paying $1000 for a new one?

No, because someone has a takeoff sitting in the rafters of their garage (like mine) with only 50 miles on it. I'm too far from you, but you can find a like new JT for $100 easy. Especially if you are not choosey which one. Mine Sport S

Yes he clarified they were plastic when I asked. But it was put to emphasize if the deal was that good (a takeoff steel bumper for $150) would folks take it
A factory steel JT/JL Rubicon bumper, even with some trail rash for $150? Absolutely.

A plastic JK bumper for that price? Not a chance. I'd happily sell you mine with some trail dents and scratches right off my JKR for $150 CANADIAN (which is like, what...$115 USD?) and put that towards an aftermarket one. ;)

OK, how do you know.
Lol...where to start?

First ding was someone hit it in the grocery store parking lot (or so my wife says) not long after we bought it new.

Second one was kissing a tree on a tight trail. A little heat and that pushed back out good enough for me.

Third one was my sister-in-law forgetting that we parked behind her in her driveway and she was used to backing up without looking (she lives alone) on her way to work...she felt horrible, we laughed. Even with our plastic bumper, her car took the worst of that one.

Used parts on a new truck.... depends.
I myself just put a used bumper on the front of my week old JTR. Of course this being the Bestop Highrock winch bumper I had on my JK with a Bulldog 15k winch attached. It’s got a couple scratches but a rattle can will fix that. I probably could have found a like new rubicon steel take off but I’m not sure this bigger than normal winch would fit down in there and I already had this heavy steel bumper sitting there with the winch bolted on so why not. Swapped the bumpers and wired the winch up and it’s all good to go.
At the same time, I would NOT replace a bent tailgate with a used of different color and rattle can that. As someone else said; body panels need to match the others in condition and paint. Parts that are meant to take the beating to protect the pretty parts.... functionality first.

I would in a second for the price you are mentioning without thinking. My feeling is that I wouldn't have to feel bad later when I inevitably scratch it on something because the first one is already out of the way.. If I had found a deal like that I would have jumped at that instead of going with an aftermarket one for sure.

10mm Dan Wesson Bruin. New, no scratches below. One of the nicest manmade objects I ever have owned. Can get 1" groups at 25 yds with a rest.

Raptor liner hides a lot of issues and is tough. You can apply it yourself and it’s easy. With the right pressure and color it looks like black matte Powdercoating and is perfect for bumpers and sliders. As for pretty body panels, no way.
