So I was told it is best to run conventional gear oil with a true track to help it engage. Does anyone know if there’s any truth to this and if so, what type of conventional oil should I be putting in my rear end?
Thanks.

I can't remember specifics it's been so long but on my old Ford truck I just used standard gear lube with NO friction modifier. I'm pretty sure Eaton has a blurb about it on their website under the true track page

The Truetrac owner's manual I have states:
"Carefully follow the recommended lubrication, preventative maintenance and inspection procedures of the vehicle/axle manufacturer. Maintenance, inspection and lubrication requirements of Truetrac differential equipped vehicles are the same for vehicles with conventional differentials."

There's nothing in there I see that says not to use synthetic lube or to use conventional only, it's basically just saying to use whatever the vehicle/axle OEM tells you to use and no special or additional additives are required.
