Question for Sunrider Owners

So my Sunrider is due to arrive tomorrow. My question concerns the removing of the hard top with the Sunrider attached. Do I first have to remove the Sunrider or can I remove the hard top and Sunrider as one unit? Any info and pics would be appreciated.

The Sunrider uses two bolts with a spacer secured to the hardtop. You'd remove the two bolts and spacer to take off the your hardtop. Since the Sunrider also 4 bolts securing it to the roll bar, you can also use it without the hardtop.

To be specific, yes you must remove the 6 bolts AND the Sunrider before you can remove your hardtop.

I suppose you could then reinstall the Sunrider using only the 4 side bolts, but I wouldn't try it personally. It won't have any center support to handle the wind.

I can't see myself driving around with the Sunrider on and the hardtop off.

Super confused?!?!?! You would not drive with the Sunrider on and the hardtop off? If that's the case, do you really even need a Sunrider?

What i'm saying is i would not remove the sunrider, then remove the rear portion of the hard top, then put the sunrider back on while the rear half of the hardtop was off.

I have the Sunrider for Hardtop. Still use it most afternoons since temps here in the Atlanta area are mostly 50s & 60s at 4:00.

The Sunrider is one of the most enjoyable aspects of having the JT. It is so much easier that opening a full soft top or removing freedom panels. Literally takes 5 seconds to open or close. So, heck yeah it’s worth having. THAT SAID, I don’t know why you would want to remove the hardtop and reinstall the Sunrider. But I agree with WXman in that without the center clamp that ties it to the hardtop and secures it, you would risk damaging your $900 top beyond repair or warranty. You will love having it! But when it’s time to get nekkid don’t wear your hat.

Concur, the sunrider was a game changer for me. Although removing the freedom panels isn’t that tough, just swinging back the sunrider is so easy my toddler can do it.

That said, what is the process if I wanted to put back the freedom panels for when it actually gets cold? Just uninstall the 6 bolts and the sunrider?

Did it last week, literally that's all you gotta do. I would get those included velcro straps and attach them after removing the sunrider so it won't open all the way when moving it. I did it by myself in the middle of the dark, little tricky but doable.

I also have a Sunrider on my truck and just love it. It’s so easy and fast to open and close. Do not plan to take it off in the winter time either. So if it warms up a good bit in the winter then time to open the Sunrider. I frankly doubt I will ever put the 2 hard roof panels back on. My money well spent. Makes me a happy camper.

Sunrider is in my not so immediate future -next spring. I love the simplicity, and would keep it on full time, but that's not the best option for me up here in Maine. Swapping back and forth between the sun rider and freedom panels a couple times per year seems fairly simple.

After slush mats....Sunrider will be next thing I get for my JT. In Florida, I doubt the Freedom Panels will ever see the light of day again.

OK, I pulled the Sunrider off for the cold weather. Not that it will be any warmer with the hard top but because I likely won’t be opening it for a while and we have some holiday road trips planned. I’m hoping it will be a little quieter on the interstate.

Point is, though, that it took 10 minutes to pull it off using the tool kit that came with the Jeep. Amazing. I plan to hang a shelf from the garage ceiling for it this weekend. My guess is that when the time comes it will take no more than 15-20 minutes to reinstall.
