A leveling kit is really simple.

You can do one side at a time, which helps the opposite side give you more leverage to drop the side you’re working on. This method also requires fewer jacks since your are supporting one corner rather than an entire end of the vehicle.

A 3 ton floor jack from Harbor Freight is less than $200. The torque wrenches you’ll need can also be found there for very little money. Some wood blocks will make up any additional height you might desire.

By jacking one side at a time (at the frame) you can use the OE scissor jack to control the amount of axle articulation needed to get the holes lined up for removing/installing hardware.

I’ve used these tools to install spacers as well as aftermarket springs. I did need spring compressors to do the rear, but those are also super cheap at HF and honestly make the job easier anyway.

As stated above, there’s so much that can be done to maintain these vehicles at home. I even do my own alignments now, which I never would have attempted with my previous vehicles.

It really is rewarding and removes the mystery when some driving dynamic doesn’t feel right down the road.

Good luck and happy YouTubeing.

You shouldnt need a compressor for rear springs either. If you can get the axle spaced far enough, the scissor jack will be your friend to getting more space between axle and top spring perch.

Interested in this thread myself. I started to install my 1.5” Teraflex level kit recently but realized that it would take ME longer than most lol.

Funny story though…Helfman Jeep/Dodge here in Houston quoted me $855 installed (including the $120 level kit parts). They said they wouldn’t install a pre-purchased kit because of liability so I wasn’t interested anyway. Still found it funny.
See Below for the response from the service guy at my local CJDR In New Smyrna Beach when I requested a price to install a Teraflex 1.5 level kit on my Mojave .. Probably stalling to present a $1k price :CWL: .. Local 4x4 shop $300 .. another local shop with alignment that Im not sure is required $450 .. The dealer appears cluless or not ? figured I give them a shot ...

Sir,

Speaking with my parts department now they are working with the distributor for specifics. Because it is a Mojave there are specific parts that have to be ordered to maintain the Mojave status. If It is a lift kit it is a little easier because they make the kit specifically for the Mojave. Once they get back to us I will let you know. We did not forget about you!

Ive never really understood why someone wants to let others do all the work. I understand if its something super hard or you dont have the know how, but none of it is really that hard. Doing it yourself is like 98% of the fun of messing with vehicles.
I used to think this. Then I got old and lazy.

For me it is medical issues. I have somewhat of a bum arm (Difficult to use it to put a lot of pressure ) and for some odd reason as I have gotten older when I get into the position of laying down on my back I get vertigo. So I feel it is just safer for me to have someone else do it.

I gotcha. Getting older does suck. Im just at 37, 38 before long and already have my own issues to deal with.

I'm 75 years old, bad back, had rotater cuff surgery on both sides and have arthritus in my hands. I was able to do this in my garage on the floor with hand tools, a floor jack and 2 jack stands. If I could do this install, anybody can !
