Everything is more expensive these days. I.e. $23 for four big tubes of Sensodyne toothpaste at Costco. It used to be ~$20 a few months ago. Grated cheese has gone up $1+ a tub (~20%).

I’m trying to get a new breaker panel w/interlock and a generator plug installed in my house. The last estimate that I got was $11,000. The electrician didn’t have a measuring tape…used his arms/wingspan to say “that’s about 30’ “ (to estimate the wiring requirement).?

It should be ~$5,000 or so (my brother literally just got the same job done in his house in a similar cost of living area).

That’s assuming you can even get an electrician to show up. I’ve had multiple ghost/no show. I’m guessing that a bigger/pricier job came along or they just decided that they didn’t want to do a renovation type job.

Similar story with a gutter estimate. Dude showed up, climbed around on the roof to look at things, and then bounced. Didn’t say a word before leaving and hasn’t reached out since. I’ve called multiple times and texted. Can’t get ahold of him.?

It must be nice to have that kind of demand that you can afford to just flake out on folks.

So yeah…Jeep parts being pricey is the least of my concerns at the moment. ?

I still want to see what $5k lift kit started all this.

@Blade1668 , do you have a link?
I have $3k in shocks and $1.5k in bump stops, and absolutely use the shit out of them. For the high speed things I do in the desert totally worth it. I ripped off my rear bump stop after hitting a big jump at 70mph with the mopar lift, now having bump stops + upgraded shocks it is night and day. This all comes down to what you use it for.

That makes sense.

What I can't make sense of is who is charging $5k for a lift that only includes the parts OP mentioned. ( 2 replacement coil springs, fixed lower control arms, 2 spring spacers, swaybar end links and shocks )

I have never seen a lift kit this basic for that much money. I'm curious what lift it is.

That and if someone just wants a cheap setup (that’ll ride like crap), but look hardcore on the way to the mall…there are plenty of options out there.

It was the same way 10+ years ago. I went with Rubicon Express + Old Man Emu for the 3.5” lift on my XJ. I could have gotten the same amount of lift for half the money elsewhere, but I wanted a decent riding setup.

There are options for every budget and sometimes the more expensive option is the better idea (depending on your priorities).

Well I will have to remember the 4x4 parts vendor but someone here has named the company who's lift kit I seen. A interesting note is since I made the comment on that subject that "kit" it has now been changed to include other parts and bypass shocks. ?

At least on the Morris 4x4 site. Now the completeness in parts is closer to realistic with a few mfg kits. AKA new springs, speed bumpstops, bypass shocks, all control arms, swaybars, links, steering linkage, brake lines, ect ect in specific kits. What I seen wasn't worth the price of that kit. It wasn't that.
Still for that much you and family could take one heck of a trip in your stock JT seeing and doing probably close to any trail in USA. But I forgot I'm on a forum of the 7or 8 figures club. ;):giggle: that keep their Lamborghini and Lotus parked outside. ?

EVO and King Shocks have always been high shelf in terms of pricing. Combine the two and that is not unexpected to be in that pricing range.

I really enjoyed his videos a few years ago when he was living off e9 retirement, gs/contractor money + his wife working.
I felt like I was watching another fellow man build a Jeep and explore. Ever since Covid and his channel Blowing up- it’s like watching celebrity money, and frankly his content is nothing like what it was a couple years back….. scroll back on the history.
Dirt lifestyle has stayed pretty consistent even with the huge up tick… (for comparison). Money changes some people… that’s life ??‍♂
Agree. What can I say?

I'm right behind you at 66. and have lived through a few of the recessions. It's a recession when your neighbor gets laid off. It's a depression when you get laid off. Never did like getting laid off. Never knew when I was going back to work.
I got laid off once, then went to grad school. Now have a university pension. I used every penny of my GI Bill.

Once I got into power generation. Never had to worry about getting laid off ever again. One hell of a 401K. Retired with 7 figures sitting in it.

Those kits have a shit ton more parts that a pair of arms, coils, and coil spacers.

I’m running a Clayton kit that has 4 springs, 2 arms, 2 track bars, and 4 sway bar links and it was under $1,500.
