I shoot a lot. and reload for what I shoot. You want to talk about supply and demand, or crazy prices. A brick of a 1,000 primers was around $20.00. Now it's a dollar a primer in some places. So that's $1,000 for a brick. Some gun powders you can't get. Go on Gun Broker and see some crazy high prices. What I'm getting at. Covid and everything else you want to throw into that group is affecting what you pay for things.

Must be nice. Haven’t seen federal magnum primers in 2? Years??
Hornady 143elx (6.5) finally showed back up in small batches a couple months ago… used to be ~$30 a box? Showed back up at $64!!!!
I have shifted to valkary for fun. $26 a box and way less powder- still rings steel at 1,000 as good as the 6.5. ?

A lot of neckbeard hording in that world. I had to put my reloading stuff up for anything that was a mil-spec caliber.

Prices are crazy for new generation jeep parts honestly. To have so much competition in the aftermarket space, you'd think things would be reasonably priced. Some items are. Snorkels have got to be the biggest rip off I've seen, right infront of metal tube fenders. I picked up a clone of a high-end snorkel on ebay for 110$. Made in the same factory as a 600$ one. Even 2" puck lifts for 500$? Because it has a logo on it and the pucks are some totally space age rubber? Seems insane.

You guys ever watch Shark Tank?

It's enlightening to hear the margins being made, the amount of money coming in and out, and yet these people seem to live like they're selling mix tapes out of their trunk.

"So how much does it take to make that plastic thing?"

"It costs me $3 per unit"

"And how much are you selling them for?"

"I'm selling them for $29.99 on my website. I did 2.2 million in sales during Covid."

"Why do you need the money?"

"I need a better Chinese factory to make it cheaper"

With pricing like that it makes the MOPAR kit down right cheap.
To me Mopar is one of the best deals out there, I would imagine they've done 50 times the R&D most companies have , it has basically everything you need and it's a quick simple install, very straightforward and it works.

Sounds like shot gun primers in my area... might as well had been a ghost... if you did find them, they miraculously turned into gold.

My favorite rifle is a Ruger Precision Rifle in 338 Lapua Magnum. Have a 5x25 S&B scope on it. 1,500 yards is no problem. I shoot either 285gr Hornady Match or the Sierra 300gr Match. Try feeding this Beast. 100 rounds take about 1.25 lbs of powder.

Been looking at the RPR in 6mm Creed. That's gone up in price. Plus the price of a good scope. Now I'm looking at over $5K just to get into it, plus the reloading items. A die set will cost me over $500. Do I get it now thinking that the price will go up. Or wait, hoping that the price will come down.

I agree ... it's out of control. I believe a large driver of these prices to be simply because they can. It's a perfect example of how a free market will drive itself into a recession. I've been to a point for some time when looking at a modification .... first I ask do I really need it? .. does it really solve a problem or is it simply aesthetics? .... I just heard a saying ... your rig is finished when you unbolt and remove all the crap that you don't need.
Capitalist America (corporations) driving themselves into a recession seems mal-adaptive doesn't it? Production diminishes, they have mass layoffs (which I think the corps enjoy in a cruel way), and the CEOs make less money, or do they? I assume it's just the lust for profit and the future be damned. Seems like a prophecy for the country. I'm 73 and have lived through many recessions, some of which greatly impacted me, and no one likes it. This time running from high inflation toward the bottom seems different in a way.

Is everyone taking into consideration the cost of materials for the last year?
I literally have disconnected our plasma table, welder hasn’t been ran in 6 months….. steel here in the PNW is still up almost 400%, I don’t work with aluminum much but it’s definitely expensive as all get out too….. 12% spool is almost 1.5x the cost…..
get into labor issues and things just ?.

I think someone else already nailed the rest. Supply and demand. Covid really ramped up the overland and Jeep scene by a LOT… everyone is trying to catch up to that YouTube scene! Gotta be like Brad with trail recon (?)
Brad's in the catbird seat. A Master Chief pension, and his wife worked on the bases where they were stationed. He seems to handle his money well. Seems like he's trying out a new jeep each month. I know that's not the case, but seems that way. I've learned a lot from him.

I agree. I've had five Tacomas since 1999. I'm a geologist and use the hell out of them in the field. I've modified most of them, and Toyota just doesn't make it easy. I took delivery of my JTR last Saturday, and since then have installed the Mopar lift, Warn EVO winch with Rugged Ridge winch plate, JCR overhead moelle panel (check it out), bed rails, bed mat, Maximus-3 bedside steps, and some minor interior stuff, and everything fits. Thursday, Discount Tire installs Ion 715 7X9" wheels and Kanati Trail Hog 35s. On the Tacoma it wouldn't be possible, at least in a week. Jeep makes it easy even for aftermarket modifications. I'll never go back to Toyota, for other reasons as well. As an example, to install a winch and winch bumper on a TRDPro, you have to cut out the front plastic bumper. On the JTR, I just unbolted the steel winch bumper, bolted up the winch plate that fit perfectly, installed the winch, and rebolted the bumper. The Mopar lift was relatively easy, although the longer LCA took a bit of time, but important to keep the strain off the driveshaft. Mopar (or Jeep) has built their vehicles to make it easy to modify. My service guy at the dealer (I got the JTR for more than 5% off MSRP) said they do a lot of aftermarket work, and it helps keep them afloat since it is generally easy.

I'm right behind you at 66. and have lived through a few of the recessions. It's a recession when your neighbor gets laid off. It's a depression when you get laid off. Never did like getting laid off. Never knew when I was going back to work.

exhausts I think are the worst, you spend over $700 for most (aside from one that is around $350) and there are no power gains, but hey, now it sounds different. I'd just recommend cutting it off after the resonator and attach a 90 deg. tail pipe. Total cost was about $10, and no, there was no loss of power.

I really enjoyed his videos a few years ago when he was living off e9 retirement, gs/contractor money + his wife working.
I felt like I was watching another fellow man build a Jeep and explore. Ever since Covid and his channel Blowing up- it’s like watching celebrity money, and frankly his content is nothing like what it was a couple years back….. scroll back on the history.
Dirt lifestyle has stayed pretty consistent even with the huge up tick… (for comparison). Money changes some people… that’s life ??‍♂

What drove me from the 6mm or even some of the other hotter 6.5’s is barrel life.
Another HUGE driver- my pockets can only sustain so many hobbies….??
Anyways- 6mm and some of the other hot rounds chew threw barrels. The 6.5 gets me around 800 +\- rounds before it needs a new barrel. I have heard of a few dudes making it to around 350-400 on the 6mm… I’m not trying to throw a new barrel on that quick- and these are decent barrels… (proof)

Yeah, I have noticed that also about his channel and few other automotive Youtube channels that have blown up. They start out early on relatable because they have a day job that is not Youtube and their mods and projects are out of their pocket and incremental.

Then there is a tipping point were sponsorship, paid endorsement and freebies from vendors that make their projects go from 0 to 10 overnight at max level ready for SEMA.

I do not begrudge Brad or any of the others that have had their channels gone commercial. Just for me, they went from being informational to now just being entertainment when I view them.
