Re-engineering the brick (keyfob)

Because that's most of what made the fob so big to start with. This is about making it look smaller while actually consuming more space.

Kind of like women have ovaries inside them and men have...big key fobs

So instead of having the key inside a larger key fob, it's going to be on a key ring hanging from the smaller key fob. I get it now!

It used to bug me until I got the holster - now I really don't care as it looks important clipped to my belt loop. Too bad it's not gun-shaped.
I guess I have little interest in having it in my pocket any more since having the holster.

Not sure if this was covered yet, but can you design it to have a quick disconnect from the key ring (keeping the physical key and key ring together if physical key present present)? So that when I lose my key somewhere and I have to steal my wife’s, I can just take the push button start fob and leave the rest of her gigantic janitor-sized key ring (and then forget to reattach the fob to the key and doom myself to feeling my wife’s wrath for taking her stuff and not putting back where it belongs)?

When you include the key ring loop I would suggest having the cutout for it 90 degrees rotated from the original style. That way if you do have it on a keyring the fob will lay flat on a table without the radius of the keyring holding it up off the table or digging into your leg in a pocket.

I would think that could be achieved by using a small metal bar or stud between the two halves.

2. 3 or 4 button case - as small as possible with external key

Option 2 would work well for me.

I currently have an AJT fob and have an external key hidden on the vehicle; I never needed tro lock the glove compartment, console, or the back upper seat.

I had a local locksmith cut a Jeep Renegade blank emergency insert key for me.

I will probably do the same thing. I won't need to have the built-in key or have it on the key ring.

Actually, they do. I've got 5 vehicles at home and my JT drives as well as any of them. The only one with tighter steering is a 2021 Grand Cherokee......because it has quick rack and pinion steering.

What? You mean Prius owners don't do the same thing??

I find it interesting that the fob for the JT is almost the same size as that of the Grand Cherokee - the main difference being how the key operates. It slides out of the GC fob, but flips out of the JT fob. So having had GCs for years, many years, it just seemed to me the key was the real difference. And when a friend who drives a Mercedes and I compared my GC fob to his Mercedes fob - they were IDENDITAL except his was trimmed in chrome.
So at least at that time, a few years ago, Mercedes used an identical fob (or I should say Jeep used a fob identical to Mercedes)
I can trace some of this size back to Mercedes.
Range is determined by battery POWER (not voltage, but output) and antenna.
To get range, they have to use batteries that can push a signal as far as possible, and an antenna that can do the same.
That being said, it would seem -the main way to reduce size would be trim the case down and rethink the key thing unless you are willing to give up power, range, etc.
Looking at some of the pics some people have posted - I have to think - what the heck is up with the 2" thick case edges on this thing! I mean - some TVs don't have that much meat where the case halves meet!
It makes me wonder - did Jeep do this on purpose to make it LOOK and feel industrial, rugged, manly?

Probably. A svelt petite minimalist fob hardly aligns with the rugged image Jeep spends millions on promoting. Frankly I’m surprised they didn’t find away to add some of the tire tread or diamond plate pattern to the fob as well.

That's where I was headed - yes.
Look at the Rubicon with it's steel bumper - an almost industrial "riveted" look with all of those screws looking like a riveted steel plate or armor, the hood with features that serve no purpose other than appearance.
It's a tough manly industrial riveted heavy steel plate look, not a rounded, contoured sleak design that fits easily into a pocket on those skin-tight pants on today's metrosexual man - on purpose. I suspect that as much as anything, they wanted it to appear tough - hey, take your buddies monster truck and run over this thing, drop it from a fighter jet into the Mississippi, you can't destroy this thing - just LOOK at it! I think it's part of the looks are everything plan.

I am thinking this especially after seeing various fobs opened, and having had others that had the same range.
On the other hand, I have to admit - it's a heck of a lot easier to do remote start on the JT from 220 feet away through triple-pane glass than it was my Chevy - I often had to step out the door or try a different angle to get it to resond at the same distance this Jeep does without hesitation.
This fob does far better than that Chevy ever did.

Oh the horror! Just think how many JT/JL thread would been started if the fob would have been TOO SMALL.
