I went with the top mount because I got a deal on it. If I had my choice I would go with the recessed. But mine does look cool and I have had no heat issues.

Looking at front bumpers and was curios what other's thoughts were on a recessed winch design bumper versus one that has the winch "top" mounted. For example, I kind of like the lines and look of the Motobilt Hammer front bumper. However, I kind of like the winch being recessed like on the Motobilt Crusher series. I like recessed, but I like the lines of the Hammer better.

So, what do y'all think about recessed versus not on the winch mount?
I chose a hidden winch setup for two reasons. One, the jeeps have poor airflow thru the radiator to begin with so don't do something to make it worse. Second, mounting the winch between the frame rails provides a stronger mount in my opinion. It pulls almost directly in line with the frame vs in an eccentric fashion when mounted above or higher on the bumper. Seems to me it is a little better protected as well when hidden mounted.
