Always a good reminder to be careful when using recovery gear.

Haven't watched the vid yet.

Safety is written in Blood. Dudes out there promoting Safety 2nd/3rd in YT videos, that mentality gets people injured or killed. Sometimes Darwin Prevails.

Someone should develop and market a Kevlar/Nomex cloth Windscreen overlay for recovery situations that would prevent intrusion into the cabin.

could be a good business opportunity. A simple sweater over the winch line helps alot too

A lot of lessons..

Bronco doesn’t have front lockers
The Jeep had aftermarket bumper with who knows how what kind of integrity.
Both vehicles did not have OEM recovery points.
Bronco driver was playing around and not paying attention…
‘They did not use a line damper as mentioned above.

important details are scattered through an hour long video. I couldn't find what actually failed on the pull side? Pin in a hard shackle? Recovery point pulled off the bumper? What is it that came through the windshield?

He doesn’t specifically say except to say that he was using soft shackles so maybe some part of the Jeeps’ aftermarket bumper?

He thought that a winch blanket would not have helped, but we pulled out Amtracs with tanks in Vietnam and always used a "weighted" winch blanket or two. One line did break, and the blanket decreased the movement of the rope significantly so that there was very little force when it reached the other vehicle. I have one that you can put rocks or other weighting material in. I always use one during recovery.

Do note, if you haven't watched the hour video, this was a snatch recovery with dynamic line. Not a static winch recovery. I'm not going to tell anyone not to use a blanket at all times, but when a static synthetic rig fails, it doesn't shoot back at the driver at mach 10 like this did.

He is very lucky to be alive

In my opinion a line damper is a safety hazard on a kinetic rope. You just created a massive slingshot. I use a damper on winch pulls but is be hesitant to even try it on a kinetic rope.
