Remote start

It isn't because you bought it in Vegas. Mine has a remote start on a Sport S. I can probably guess which dealer you bought it from to not have remote start.

Looking for a remote start system for our 23 Gladiator Rubicon. The only thing the dealership was able to suggest that "might work" was a Viper system. I was hoping that someone here would have some experience with this issue. Looking for a system that can be controlled via smartphone app. Thanks in advance

I'm already disappointed in the Viper DS4 that I had installed on my 2020 Gladiator Overland. Had a VIper on my 2005 Ram 3500 Diesel that I loved though. Insane range with the 2way remote. However with the Gladiator it HAS to see the door sensors or something so if I remote start it with the 3x lock on OEM fob....which the range is atrocious as the bluetooth app is...then start loading kids, dog, wife, and gear it shuts off because the door was opened and not started within seconds regardless that I have a 30min runtime timer set. It makes the whole point of having a remote start that can cool down my truck and keep it cool in Arizona while I'm being chivalrous and a good Dad. Absolute waste of money that I can't disable the doors because my Ram never had this "feature"....this also means I can't take the doors off and turn it on either so the kids can listen to music etc while I'm running back and forth from the house to get all their stuff.....end rant.

I’ve armed my doorless many times. I’d check with your installer. Mine works extremely well.

I had remote start from the factory, but not from my phone as I have the 7” head unit. 2021. So I added the viper remote start as well, and do it from my phone. But when remote starting, I haven’t had issues with it shutting off when entering. I also have mine set to 30mins. I’ve used the key fob start to test that it works, with I think three lock presses, but prefer the phone method now.

Any quality Directed Electronics system should work fine. They come basic or feature packed (for a price). I've been using them for over a decade on different vehicles. They're not always as flashy as Viper products, but work just as well for much less. They're also a bit more reliable than Viper these days across all brand vehicles as they aren't just software based like Viper has been known to be. I still have a 15 y/o system that has 2 way paging and multiple AUX functions from a FOB, and ties into my factory alarm/locks. I've also got it installed on a manual transmission.

I chose my installer, not the system. I’d been working with him for years and knew he’d do a great job on my Jeep. I’m particular. He’s a viper dealer. The one complaint I have about viper is the cellular module. It works great if you’re in a strong AT&T area. Crappy in areas that aren’t.

THAT has been the single biggest issue since their release of their cellular product, AT&T network only, which often has issues even in areas with coverage. The antenna inside isn't great either as I've hear people can make calls/text but not have their RS working in the same place.

FYI Viper is part of the Direct Electronics group, generally considered one of their top 3 tier. Just wish they'd realize people may way to use their own SIM since they haven't changed their device in about a decade, just the other features/modules required to interface with modern vehicles.

Yep. That’s an issue. Probably not in metro areas, but rural where we are, it is. Frankly that bothers me very little. What I really want is a WiFi radio to compliment it. That way you’re always covered when it’s at home or work. And with Starlink which I have on mine, it would be covered everywhere period.

If your Viper kit has an AUX input that can be programmed as a signal to start, you COULD use a GPS locator I found for $40 that allows you to use your own sim and a free open source app to send a signal from it to trigger the Viper. Or and arduino/Rasp-pi and custom code.

I don’t want it for bad coverage start. I want it for bad coverage security. But that’s a great idea regardless.

So it might not work here............. AT&T service stinks here. About the only ones that work well are USCC, now combined with T-Mobil. I've had people here who wanted to bust their phones because they could not make or receive calls. The most entertaining are HVAC and similar contractors who rely on a tablet for billing and paying for the work. Some have said "we'll have to wait until I get back to the office". I tell them - just drive north a mile or two, or back west to the intersection. Flat, higher, few trees.
It's better than it was, but for a couple of years the apps often disappeared from the radio on my first JTs until I left our neighborhood.
I swear - want to hide stolen stuff or bodies, come to our property. GPS, cellular, you name it - good luck.

Yeah. Similar. Calling here is largely reliable only because of WiFi calling.
