I have an Overland as the title would suggest. I want to replace the silver inserts in the grill or just remove them altogether if replacement isn't possible. Anyone have any experience doing that? I like messing with my Jeeps but I don't want to get down the road on the mod to find out that I've gone and broken something I can't fix without replacing the entire grill.

For reference, I mean the silver plastic inserts shown here:

I did this and plasti-dipped them black. Then slapped em' back together. Was pretty easy to do and it looks alot better than the silver. You can also buy the inserts from Quadratec. The bumper inserts were easy to remove. All that silver on your grill that you see clips into your grill in 3 sections. I'll dig up the video I used to run me through the process. It's just a few clips to undo and takes maybe 30 minutes to disassemble at most. I recall a couple clips being a pain but aside from that went smooth.

Awesome! Thanks both for the information. I'm going to do some reading/watching and get started this weekend!

I ordered the quadratec one, then dropped it off at a body shop to be painted like the rubicon ones. I’m super happy with it.

more than happy to take them off your hands - I believe they should be able to go on my 2021 sport.

Done this on my Overland. I've got rid of all the silver pieces except the overland tail emblem which I like. I plastic dipped the small pieces but the grill I got a 3 piece Mopar replacement part from Quadratec. Removed the grill and added it. I. Also replaced the housing for the front bumper as well although I've since went to a steel front which doesn't have the plastic pieces. Besides those two areas everything else (badges/emblems) I just plasti-dipped since they were smaller areas. I wouldnt suggest plasti-dipping larger pieces but thats just me.

Just in case another Hydro Blue Gladiator owner doesn’t want the silver trim, I’d be happy to swap a Sport grill with them!

(Bonus for western PA area)

So just to confirm , the silver grill inserts can just be deleted? Im guessing this would help with cooling and look much better.

Easy afternoon project with Rustoleum red peelable paint. The Plastidip brand red is orangey and pale, almost a salmon color, and I didn't care for it. Peeled that off and went with Rustoleum, which is very close to the color of the factory Rubicon tow hooks. Taking apart the grill is easy with a set of panel tools (cheap on Amazon)--even with the front camera. One caveat: I have to wipe the headlight bezels with a towel after rain because, if water sits on it overnight, that red paint develops white water spots that are difficult to remove. No big deal as long as I remember to dry it off once I'm in the garage for the night.
