For her birthday I bought my wife a 2021 Overland Gladiator. With it's larger tires and wheels, the running boards are a bit higher step than she would like. I'm wondering if there exists a retractable step that could extend out from below the running boards, so she could take two smaller steps to get in instead of one giant step?

And before you think I'm husband of the year, after driving it from Missouri back to Texas it was VERY hard to hand over the keys. I have to admit it's nicer than my 2014 (last year) FJ :) .

Cheers,
Doug

Step stool and you retract it. Or amp power steps.

There aren't any that go below the OE running boards.

There are a couple replacement setups, the before mentioned AMP steps and the Rock Slide Engineering Step Sliders.

The big difference between them is what you do with the vehicle. If it is mainly a street driver with some gravel roads thrown in, the AMP steps are a nice step.

If you spend any time out on the trails, go with the Rock Slide Eng slider steps, they are designed to take off road use.

Rough Country also sells a retractable running board. I have them on my Gladiator and they come down much lower than the stock boards. So far I have been happy with them. They are priced much cheaper than the AMP running boards.

We had amp steps and while doing some mild 4 x 4’ ing in the snow, we hit a hidden tree stump and it ripped the drivers side completely off. Now we have rock slide engineering and they are absolutely the bomb!!!!!!

There is another, much less expensive alternative.
I think I got them through Extreme Terrain.
Basically it stays tucked up tight to the rock rails on theRubicon but sticks out enough to get your toe on it to deploy it.. The best part is that if you plan on any rough riding you just pull 2 pins out and take it off..

Guess I need to get these for my wife so I don't have to hear her complain anymore. Been listening to it for five years. You'd think I'd be used to it. 😂 😂
