I was afraid they'd try to order the seal, bearing/race and cap and try and press them on at the shop.
Never known a dealer shop to do that under warranty - for that matter, these days, even not under warranty. With labor what it is, the price of the bearing alone, it's not worth it to them.
Me, in a heartbeat, that's how I do it, but them? Naw.
As far as I know, no one here has ever mentioned a dealership doing it that way.

Agreed - they can directly expense the pre-built part, but their labor rates are discounted for warranty work. Take the easy route! Which, in this case, I appreciate.

The only reason I was worried is because the service advisor said they ordered a "new seal" when he told me they were waiting for parts.

Of course, he also thought the front end ball joint noise would be fixed with my rear axle replacement, so go figure. That's another story...

I've seen and heard so many contradictions come from the service advisors - "pan" when they mean gasket, gasket when they mean pan, no he never had to do xxx but the work order shows they did xxxx, CAN bus issue fixed by an "inspect electric system" line item. You never know if what you hear is their interpretation, what the parts department told them, what the tech told them, or something they pull out of a hat.

Well.... another (sad) update. I was doing my 500 mile diff fluid change this weekend after my re-gear from over the holidays and my right rear axle is leaking again. I didn't have enough time between the dealer's axle replacement and the gear swap to say if it was the dealer's fault or the gear shop since they have to pull the axle shafts. But none of the other 3 shafts are leaking, so...

At this point, I'm not 100% sure where to start, but I think I'm going to start with the dealer.

Any thoughts/contradictions?

You can start there, but if they pull things and find the outer part of the seal dinged or damaged from slapping the axle back in......... (it's not hard to damage axle seals on putting the axle back into the tube)
Not saying they did anything wrong, but it could have gone either way. Dealer will let you know and may simply handle it because it's a leaking seal again.

I just found my 22 has the same leak. 6200 (that’s right… hundred, not thousand) miles. Bummer!

SO this right rear axle leak has hit my Jeep. Dealer found it this morning while doing routine maintenance (91k miles). The good news is that it's covered under my extended warranty. They ordered the part and will call me when it comes in to schedule the repair.

Your dealership is blowing smoke up your ass. I would elevate or go elsewhere if me.
