EDIT: Dealer has stated they are refunding the deposit over the mileage issue.

I'm a complete idiot, we'll start there.

I put $6000 down on a 2020 Sport on 10/30. Dealer claimed employee pricing for all would be finished on 11/2 and I was going to miss out. Truck inventory on the rural island I live on is really messed up and I'm trying to buy from the larger island and get it shipped.

The MSRP on the Monroney sticker is "Base Price $33545", "Total Price $37945". They sent me a purchase order document showing that the vehicle has a mileage of 3 miles on it.

My purchase order shows a base price of $35581, $220 "auto theft" (certainly useless), Subtotal $35801.

$295 documentation (no complaints Hawaii is not cheap),
$1700 TAX,
$500 License/Title/Registration
$38294.

After many days of the dealership failing to send me any purchase documents, after promising to send them to me, they've also now told me today that it has 569 miles. Still hasn't send the fedex tracking number for the documents that I'm being assured will now be sent today.

So uhhh... I'm not just paying too much for a new car. I'm paying way too much for a used new car. Not too pleased with myself right now.

And since I gave them a ton of money I just get to sit back and enjoy how idiotic my situation is now.

If it makes you feel any better, used Gladiators are selling for more than new ones right now. So maybe you DID get a deal!

plus you live in Hawaii. You win every day just by waking up.
THANK YOU for your kind words sir.

I'm hoping I can make a few people feel especially smart with the details of my experience too ;)

This was about the 10th time that I talked to the GM in total, spoke to him this afternoon... As soon as the huge amount of mileage fraud they had been trying to pull over on me came to light, he has stated that he's refunding the deposits. He did try to drop the title/license fee to $10 first, and pointed out that the warranty had not started yet (something I hadn't processed).

Now, I go talk to the local dodge dealer about ordering one I guess? Or take a trip to see my mom and check out one of those Idaho JT's! There was a blue manual a few weeks ago in my price range. Gotta add like $2000 for shipping it back home (and have the cash ready), I think I have air miles for getting me there and back.

Really good news? I don't qualify for chrysler 1.9% (or whatever promo APR). But my credit union is doing 2.99% starting next month, who I was going to get 5.25% with (I was actually very happy with that rate). So this could save me a couple thousand in interest also.

Just get ur money back and go elsewhere
Thanks for your response!

That was my whole melodrama. I was concerned that I didn't have an option to get the cash back, and until the odometer mismatch came up, everybody was basically telling me to go to hell. Including my credit union which was going to make me wait 30 days to file a dispute--but I was to that point for sure finally.

I am so grateful I don't have to commute for my job, I had zero excuse for screwing this negotiation up so hard. I got worn down and worn out one day and just wanted it to be done and I had been regretting it since.

OK... you asked... so Im roasting your deal, the dealer, the Jeep, and anything else I can!

******** WARNING THESE ARE BAD JOKES *********

Your deal is so bad ... ducks feel bad and throw bread at you.

Your deal is so depressing...... blues singers will come visit you when they've got writer's block

Your deal is so bad..... that Nigerian princes want to wire you money so you can get a JEEP

Your dealer is so bad.... they put airbags on their computer in case it crashed.

That Jeep with 569 miles is such crap... the dealer sent it to the dentist to get a Bluetooth.

Your salesman is so stupid.... when you asked him if he "lost his mind" with your deal, he went looking for it.

When the dealer said "SO... is it a yes or no to our deal...." you put lipstick on your forehead so you could makeup your mind.

Dude... you didn’t really get that bad of a deal considering. I was on O’ahu and even in Honolulu you could only get so much of a deal. From my few trips to Big Island I’m pretty sure there’s like only one of every dealership so don’t beat yourself up and what’s a few miles. Supply and demand

Nice... Somebody took up the thread challenge :D Thanks AzRob

JkJT84: Oh it's a real situation. I'm now back to trying and figuring out what I want to buy. I just called the dealership about putting in an order, they wanted an in person appointment "due to covid". I told them it was downright offensive to use COVID as an excuse for why I needed to come in to the dealership, if they're worried about COVID they would work with me on NOT coming to the dealership.

Of course, when I called them back a few minutes later that was all just a misunderstanding. SICK OF THEIR GAMES!!!

Im sure they feel they have a captive audience and don’t need to play straight. Search the forum for Rob Trachtman. He’s in SoCal and I think selling at 4% below invoice. Then maybe easier to ship from there?

I went to another dealer and made an out the door offer over the phone today. Got a mileage verification 22 miles. Love the punk'n metallic so far, it matches my luggage and a handmade down quilt I own. I want some custom purple vinyl trim to accent it and make it fit with the other stuff that is orange/purple scheme.

Punk'n metallic sport s instead of a gator sport.

Made an offer near the 5% below invoice amount in the 2019 pricing sheet, and they came back immediately $230 less than the 4% below invoice amount.

I don't feel as absurd trying to buy a $40k truck if it has power windows and locks and I feel more certain about whether I'm getting a reasonable deal. I think both factors were big for me. The truck I'm negotiating to buy had been previously quoted by a downtown dealer location with a bunch of add-ons ($1500 paint coatings etc) and today I knocked about $3000+ off the price I was given on it a couple weeks ago. And it's ending up basically $1200 more out the door than the gator sport to get the orange sport s model (a $3200 msrp pkg).

No money down yet somebody else can still buy it. Waiting on $6000 debit refund and other gm is following up. Sleeping at least on the decision this time.

And then I found out my credit union is dropping rates on 12/1 to 2.99% and it will basically save me $2000 in interest to wait, but I have to get the loan in December, not before. Oh..... Okay. So now I need a second lender to take the loan initially so my cu will refinance it next month. Or let the deal sit 3 weeks and see if it's still good. Or just pay a slightly higher rate which I was very happy about being able to get at all before.

Jeep( Chrysler Capital) was doing a few months no payments and a relatively competitive rate. This was back in may so not sure if they are now but I went with them for a couple months then refinanced with my credit union after.

I emailed the salesman yesterday asking about finding financing at an alternate institution. I haven't heard back.

With the amount of money I could save waiting until the start of the next month, or finding that alternate financing, I'm waiting.

I did give them the option to help me make my mind up by buying me a hard tonneau or paying my shipping to Hilo (~$650). I guess I'll know if anything was left on the table now! My CU loan will not be as cheap if I take this option but I'll be fine with it, it's not a terrible rate.
