I am in the progress of installing these. Just calibrated them. the passenger side almost sags a bit, like there isn't enough tension on the spring to hold them tight against the housing when closed. I can push on the steps with my hand and move them a bit when closed. The driver side is nice and tight.

Clearance is fine etc.

I see a spring in there, but not sure if the tension is adjustable or not.

I have that challenge for time to time on my JK. I "calibrated" the steps, pulling the fuse, while the engine was running. Not sure why but the steps calibrated correctly, could they be sensitive to voltage?

The steps on my Gladiator are less temperamental.
