Here are some pics of my above windshield mounted KC Gravity Pro 6 light bar not glaring off of my hood, not making any noise, producing a metric shit ton of light, and looking good doing it :

I don't doubt for a moment that using incandescent lights, shitty lights, Most Fire Numbah One Offroad light from Chinazon would reflect off of the hood and possess all the negative characteristics mentioned in this thread . Mine do not

I used a light bar above the windshield for years on my JKU and the only two issues I encountered were 1. whistling wind noise at highway speeds and 2. Discoloration on my A-pillars from the light bar brackets. Would I do it again? No.

I intend to go with a front bumper bracket mounted light bar. And the only off road driving I do is back in the woods dirt road driving. No rock crawling and my JT is my daily driver.

I used the absolute cheapest Chinese knock off lights over My JK and never saw a reflection on the hood. It was a combination of Spot and flood and they came in extremely handy on more then one occasion.

I think somebody somewhere saw a YouTube guy say some shit and they just parrot it. Whether or not the hood catches any illumination is a function of the diameter and depth of the reflector, the clarity of the lense and to a lesser degree the type of emitters.

With a correctly designed reflector you can make light come off of it like a freaking light saber with virtually no perceptible spill.

Hey Ed. Old post, but wanted to know what brand windshield hoop bar that is? I read your build thread but didn’t see it mentioned. Looking for something similar for a front rack for my soft top gladiator (carrying long paddle boar).

as someone pointed out, that was my old JK. the bar was by Rugged Ridge with the added addapter to drop them down a little. before you get too excited, no, they dont make it for the JT. in fact, unless you're willing to fork out some big bucks for ARS/MetalCloak, no one makes a tube bar for the windshield that I have heard good things about. the problem is there is not the support/infrastructure to mount it on like the JK. so, unless you get the flat metal style, it's going to be flimsy and poorly supported - unless its built like the one mentioned above.

Hope this helps. I gave up my mission to replicate what I had done on the JK and went with the sports rack instead and mounted the lights there. verry happy with the results.

Thanks for the update Ed. Your rig looks right on ? ✌
Actually, I do recall last year when I was on my search for the holy grail, I did call Rugged Ridge directly and asked if they were going to release something similar for the Gladiator. the rep didn't tell me flat out "no". he kind of hinted at something in the works but with a "not at this time". Take it for what its worth (not much).

Not sure if your taste.. but I mounted the Rough Country 30” hood-mount light bar. Pretty cool for the price and we’ll made

Looks good, hows the light pattern does it light up the road well and does the washer fluid hit the light bar? I have a A pillar light bar i wanna change to a hood light bar.

Windshield washer works perfectly.. lights up more than the road.. you could see a bug on a log.. it’s surprisingly a pretty wide beam.. works great! Really like
