Rubicon steel skid plate not compatible with mopar steel bumper

Public service announcement: Maybe this is common knowledge but yes the 2022 rubicon comes with a steel skid plate even if it has the plastic bumper. However it is not “THE” steel skid plate that mates with the mopar steel bumper. If you are like me, you might think well I don’t care if it does not bolt on to the bumper. I’ll just bolt it to the frame like it was with the plastic number. Except the steel bumper is bigger than the plastic bumper and you can’t. So if you upgrade to the steel bumper and you want a skid plate then you also need to buy the matching skid plate. And the mounting brackets are different too. So, buy the one with the hardware. That is all, hope it helps someone.

can you mount the steel bumper to the Jeep with the plastic bumper steel skid plate brackets on the frame? I ask because I am considering just trimming the steel skid plate to fit with the bumper. I got it for free and would love to use it even if I need to trim it.

My late build (10/21) 2021 Rubicon came with the steel skid and a plastic bumper. The skid did not bolt to the bumper on mine.

I put on the steel knockoff Mopar style bumper and had no issues with the skid plate mounting at all. I had the same very small gap from the bumper to the skid that was there from the factory.

I would just see it it fits, Jeep seemed to make different styles for different years, you might get lucky.

my 21' Rubi had the plastic bumper with steel skid plate. Not bolted to the bumper, does the steel bumper bolt further down ?

The optional steel bumper skid plate bolts along bottom of steel bumper, really nice solid even perhaps more aero design. People have trimmed the bumper or factory skid to fit.
