Hey guys! I got my scanguage installed and setup this week... but Regen and Soot % are acting weird (I have check the programing codes more than a couple times and they look okay)

Regen pops between Yes and No with no rhyme or reason (within mins of startup and at idle it can say YES and then quickly change to no)
Soot % seems to bounce around too, but kind of coincides with throttle goes up w/ more throttle and down at idle

I'm pretty sure everything else is setup okay too... Diesel A, 3.0, Turbo, and such

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Passive regen, vs active regen.

I don't know what scanguage is but there are two types of regen - active and passive.
Almost all highway miles and my ODB reader shows the regen on and off all the time. 6500miles and - so far - no active regen.
The passive regen pushes my exhaust temps to around 800°F - active should be above 1000.

It's a configurable/additional gauge that connects to the obd port and can show lots of things not on any of the dash guages

Pretty handy to see if Regen is on and % of soot in the DPF... and quite a bit of other info can be programed in there. Here's @WXman more in-depth explanation

I have under 2k miles but wanted to start watching when/how it happens and still trying to understand all this diesel exhaust stuff :)

this is showing that it says Regen is ON at idle, just started for a few mins and still in park... that doesn't seem right, right?

I use a bluetooth OBD reader with the OBD Fusion app ... I have a custom gauge cluster that shows both Passive and Active regens. There are 2 variables for regen ... Regen Status and Regen Type:
Regen Status 1 Regen Type 0 = Passive
Regen Status 1 Regen Type 1 = Active

Very often I will see Passive regen shortly after starting a cold engine mainly due to the temp of the DPF. The DPF will passively regenerate when the DPF temp reaches a certain threshold (I'm not exactly sure but in the ~400-500F range).

I watch my gauges closely because I make a lot of short trips to drop kids off at school, practice, etc and so my soot level builds quickly without any passive regen and therefore I see quite a few Active regens (which costs you some diesel that is injected into the DPF to increase temps).

I've started to drive a little different to purposely create high EGT's which in turn heats the DPF. When I'm heavy with my right foot it helps to get the passive regen to burn off a percent or 2 here and there. This just delays the inevitable of an Active regen during my many short trips.

On longer trips I've watched my soot level go from 70% down to 40% passively.

This is one of the big benefits that I'm looking forward to in the GDE tune.
