Reason #87,241 I moved to New Hampshire. 😁
I wear a seatbelt because I choose to, not because the government tells me to.
Live Free Or Die isn't just our state motto, it's a way of life!
😁 I grew up in N.H. - Dover, to be exact.

Don't get to comfortable with that statement. It's a 'way of life' can change by the stroke of a pen or pens.😉

That's always a possibility, although as a neighbor and I were discussing yesterday (as I was "staining" the deck of my car trailer with used motor oil thinned with diesel), we're so rural here things in Washington DC or even Concord, NH will have very little impact on our lives. And right now, the trend has been the LFOD way of life keeps improving. Hell, we just did away with vehicle inspections AND emissions. The KY based company contracted to run them is trying to sue the state, and got a federal judge appointed by a prior administration to issue an injunction. The response from the governor and Attorney General was to basically tell the judge "FU. We passed a the law that eliminated the inspections AND the funding for them. Not going back". Meanwhile, the legislature is about to pass a contingency law that says if they do get reinstated, the police will not be able to stop you based on lack of inspection sticker, and if you are stopped for some other reason, the max fine for no inspection will be $1.

Removing safety inspections is one of the most retarded things I've ever heard of for road going vehicles. Cool you don't want a seatbelt, enjoy being a projectile, because those crash rating are only IF you wear the seatbelt.

I remember the 2a laws in AZ, they're nice.

But really, not having safety inspections is a sure way to have MORE accidents and less state income. Idk about you but I don't want idiots running around without properly functioning lights, or a tire that's worn the the metal and will blow at any second, or having some druggie hit me because they don't have working brakes and blew a red light.
- This shit happens in FL all the time because they don't have any inspections after the initial sale/registration. Almost rear ended a black car at night because they were high and driving 5pmh in the middle of a 4 lane road in a 45 zone with no lights on or around them.

And don't even get me started on motorcycles and helmets. You can be the safest rider, and still get annihilated because you didn't have a helmet on, ask me how I know (my helmet saved my life).

I love freedom too, but SOME laws do help. And sometimes we all need a little pew pew in our life!

I think only 12-14 states still have safety inspection. Study after study shows mandatory safety inspections make no real world difference in vehicle safety. That's because mechanical failures of any kind only account for a tiny percentage of accidents, and the annual inspection is just one moment in time vs the rest of the year. You could pass inspection, and hit a pothole as you are leaving that causes a tire belt to slip, or a loose wire that has been rubbing to finally short and blow your brake light fuses or knock your alignment out and 100 miles later your left front tire is bald. Maybe you hit a piece of debris and nicked a brake line. But your sticker says the car is safe.

The biggest thing here was the state resident who is considered one of the top automotive forensic experts in the world testified. He's also the former head of the state inspection program, and wrote many of the laws. Besides the testifying on the actual safety stuff, he mentioned multiple times when an inspection shop tried to scam him and claim his car failed and could not leave without repairs. He literally said "Do you know who I am? Google me and then tell me again what I failed for". Both times they apologized and claimed they mixed up his car with someone else's.

As for motorcycle helmets, like I said, for me it depends. That's because I've been in an accident where the helmet almost paralyzed me or worse, and have the chipped vertebrae in my neck to prove it. So I weigh the odds. On a highway, or in town? Def wearing a full face helmet, and not a cheap POS either. Top of the line Shoei. But a low and slow ride in the country? 25-30mph with very few driveways of side streets? No helmet or possibly just a shortie one.

Oh, and it's hard to argue it's about safely and not about the money when we had to get BRAND NEW CARS inspected. Are there really that many brand new cars sitting on the dealer lot with bad brakes and bald tires?
