Is it normal to be able to shift from drive to neutral with out pressing the brake? vise versa , also is a sound heard when in park pressing the brake in the gear selector? Thanks

yes, all of that is normal and probably on most modern cars out there. You can also shift from reverse into neutral without pressing the brake, but cannot shift from neutral into reverse unless the brake is pressed.

The sound you here is the internal mechanism that blocks the shifter being moved out of park unless the brake is pressed, and is again on every modern car in one way or another. Some vehicles it's audible, others it is not. Many newer vehicles don't have a mechanical linkage so there wouldn't be anything to make sound. Shift by wire alone will stop you.

Thanks I noticed the sound last night when the radio was off when I press the brake I can hear something engage from the shift lever. I know it’s the interlock that prevents shifting by accident but never noticed the sound. Wanted to make sure nothing was broken
