First thank you for letting me join the forum. Going to look at a 2022 pre owned Gladiator Rubicon all options with 3.0 diesel with under 4k miles. tomorrow. I have owned many jeep’s and the wife is driving a Grand Cherokee L summit now with an hemi. and always had a diesel trucks, but never a diesel Jeep.

Anything special I should look for since the diesel has very mixed reviews? certain components? Drivability/shifting issues?
Stay away all together and get a Mojave instead?
Any help is help and appreciated.

I don’t own the diesel model but it seems that all the diesel owners on this forum love the engine…regardless of its somewhat rare issues.

I say go for it. Right now, if I were offered my exact truck and build but with the 3.0 diesel, I’d take it. Hope that helps!

Yes that is correct and it not exclusive to the Gladiator platform if I remember correctly. Google CP4 pumps or search it here on the forum for more info. I’m not familiar enough with diesels to speak on it at all. Lots of good info on the forum though!

Yes the CP4 is a turd. I was told last week by the dealer, keep fuel levels up until the fix is out. Love the engine. Glad I jumped in October 2021 before the pricing went crazy and interest rates went up as well. That being said, it was a good choice for me. 6-9 months ago or so, I pulled a Tahoe that was framed out in sand just above idol. The bystanders were like...how'd you do that. I said simple, 4 low, locked and let her eat. They said yeah, but you didn't jerk or rev on it. I said you don't necessarily need to with an Oil Burner;)

Had it on the highway this weekend going just over 80'ish and still got 25-26 mpg @ 2,000 RPM's. Wind was strong hitting me at 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock on the way back. Granted, I'm not lifted or have larger tires yet, but I do carry 200-300 lbs in the bet most of the time.

I've got a diesel! Love it. Way better than a gasser IMO. Fuel pump yeah it went out. Jeep cares took care of everything and then some. Wouldn't trade mine in for nothing except another diesel Gladiator.

Thank you all for the replies. We stopped at the local Cracker Barrel last night and there was a Wrangler with a diesel. Looked around but couldn't determine whose's it was. Sure would have liked to asked them as well. Dougstdig-Your the second person that has said just keep the fuel level up. Another person said just don't run it below 1/4 tank.

I have that CP4 version in another vehicle and the possibility of it failing weigh heavy on me. I second the thought of never below 1/4 tank. I had plans on getting a 3.0 option until I learned it had a CP4. You will probably be fine. My CP4 has 9 years and 140k miles on it.

I would have no reservations about switching to a diesel Gladiator or Wrangler for that matter. I say go for it and understand with any engine there are potential issues. Fuel it up and deal with it when it comes. I’d choose that over a 4XE any day. Exception would be if the Hurricane I6 was available.

The diesel seems amazing.

just check the payload sticker on the B pillar of the drivers side. SOME have less than 1k payload due to options added to them. May or may not be an issue for you, but its a “need to know” in my opinion.

I look all the time, but only ever find diesel Rubicon’s with crappy low payload ratings. If you Google the diesel, gladiator payload rating, it says it can go as high as 1400lbs. But I have yet to see one with that payload rating.

Great truck, I'm sure you'd love it. I have a 22' Rubi 3.6 and seriously considered the diesel but I have issues with DEF, fuel pump concerns, payload limitations and the overheating de-rate. The diesel is probably a better ride day to day but for practicality I think the 3.6 is still the winner.

I had a Mojave and traded it for a Diesel Sport S. I will tell you I miss the Mojave suspension everyday, it was awesome!

but, in my opinion the gas V6 should be taken behind the barn and shot. I don't regret the diesel swap at all. 30K with no issues. just check and see if the one you were looking at was affected by the pump recall or not, my diesel is a 22 and was not affected by the recall.

Good luck either way!

Well I did it! Couldn't drive two vehicles at once, so I'll pick it up later this week.! I will update with pictures in the near future. It's a loaded '22 rubicon all features minus front trail cam and bed rail system. Test drove on the local streets and interstate. misty rain and 5-10mph winds. The power is amazing over our 2015 3.6 JKU Sahara. Surprisingly impressive drive with no real wandering as some of our prior jeeps. I also learned the diesel rubicon has steel knuckles opposed to the aluminum knuckles on a gasser Rubicon. Yes they have different ratio's. Thanks for the insight and pleasant opinions.

There are several other components on the diesel that make it worth while. Steering knuckles, transmission, etc. you will love it for sure

Awesome! Don’t fret on the camera…

Another fella also got this indicated it’s a sharper image and has much meter contrast. Run it off your phone or tablet. Tires lines are adjustable. Other than power that I have wired to the fuse box ACC powered, it runs on WiFi. All for $58!
