You could benefit from an airbag suspension and a weight distribution hitch.
The trailer is easily less than 2500 so I'm going to guess your recommendation is because he has both a trailer and a heavy load in the bed? I hadn't considered needing weight distribution unless the tongue weight on the trailer was particularly bad.

A lot of you have some pretty serious tires on your trucks. I’m looking to upgrade the stock tires. How big can you go before seriously impacting the tow capacity?
I need the same info. I have a Max tow ordered. I pull a small camper.

That's a lot of trailer? So, how does it do? Not just in terms of power, but stability too.
it’s around 6800 loaded. The farthest I’ve taken it was 300 miles round trip to the mountains and it did fine. Downshifted on the steep declines (but used manual mode on highway to get lower gears). Never not enough power engine wise.

I usually cruise at 55-60. Nothing over 60 mph.

stability wise no issues especially w the WDH dialed in. At first I didn’t have it dialed in perfectly and I got a little bounce, but now it’s good. Turning, cornering and tracking are great also, I think this is because the dual axels.

Braking wise I have the Redarc pro and it does great. I have it set a little trailer brake heavy so I get no push from the trailer which I like. The trailer brakes actually pull me from behind which is helpful and assuring
on steep declines.

I think the main thing people screw up is driving TOO fast or not have the WDH w sway set up correctly, and not having the brake controller. It’s not a race w these things and don’t have the expectation you won’t feel them behind you.

Awesome. Sounds like the JT is working out very well!

We had a similar sized trailer (Keystone Bullet 282BHS). It was a bit much for our 2004 GMC Yukon, which prompted the purchase of our 2005 Ram 2500. I'm thinking the properly set up JT might actually be a better TV than the old Yukon was. The Yukon was just too soft in the suspension arena and marginal on the power front (our had the 4.8 V8) for our mountainous area.

You are absolutely right that people seem to want to tow 70-80 mph and/or without using the appropriate WDH and anti-sway devices. That is not a recipe for safety or comfortable cruising, IMO. The funny thing is that on longer trips, slowing down can actually result in getting to your final destination faster, as you burn less fuel and might be able to skip a fuel stop or two. Even if you don't have to factor in a fuel stop, a 10mph difference isn't likely to add up to more than another 30 - 45 minutes of driving time over the course of a trip. It can sure make the difference between an edge-of-the seat, edge-of-control one vs. a relatively relaxing and comfortable one, though!
