We were pulling out of Home Depot (both puppies and the wife with me) and a big white panel van rear-ended me.

I was so mad, I jumped out, looked back and he was maybe 22-23 years old with a brand new commercial sticker still on the window. I was a bit worried as there was plastic and bumper bits everywhere until I remembered waiit this is a Jeep with two steel bumpers.

It took out both headlights & left fog light, tore off the bottom plastic bumper shroud and dented the plastic bit underneath. Honestly it wasn't that hard of a hit the wife wasn't screaming. It scratched the protective rubber liner on top of my bumper maybe a half inch.

I ended up not calling it in his brand new insurance would have dropped him like a bad habit.
He's still going to shill out a grand or so for those lights and clips for the shroud.

I might have to work this into getting new bumpers down the line! I took a look underneath nothing looks damaged.

Glad no one was hurt, and the damage minor.

It's funny I've had it just over 2 years now and have jousted boulders far harder than that traffic hit and I scratched the tailgate about half the length two weeks into having it with a large U-Hall trailer but didn't bat an eye on that.

But one little finder bender and O-My-God-My-Baby!!! ;)

The wife did notice I checked the dogs and then the Jeep without asking her anything.

I too was rear-ended a few days ago by a guy in his 30"s at a stop sign. I ride a motorcycle so I have a habit of watching my rearview mirror for pending danger. I saw him coming up behind me to didn't think he was stopping and bam! He was texting, i jumped out and let him know what I thought. Just a scuff on my receiver hitch. His bumper cover was loose and hood was damaged. After I cooled off and gave him some.more of my opinion on texting and driving he apologized and I let it go. He didn't want to file a report. Just glad I wasn't on my bike.

I didn't even have mine two months when someone on the highway busted my right tail light in a hit & run. Also left a minor dent/paint transfer scratch about 6 inches in length on my tailgate next to the tail light.

I already had new aftermarket LED ones on the way, but that still really sucked. Especially since it was at 70mph and could easily have gone way worse.

My wife was rear ended 3 days after getting her Jeep, crazy drivers everywhere.

I got rear ended in my LJ about a week or so after paying it off. It was pretty bad one. 60 on the highway. Drunk girl rear ended me at an estimated 80mph and destroyed her Hyundai. Repairs paid for about 80% of my 3ā€ lift at an off-road shop. I guess that means it worked out. There’s something to be said for a Jeep with ā€œBuns of steel.ā€

Glad you made it out ok. HOWEVER, I would have still taken the insurance info and then had a body shop give me an estimate. Sometimes in the heat of the moment you miss damage that you find later on. You can exchange info and still not file a claim if you don’t find serious damage later.

I totally understand that you were trying to be a nice guy, but in my line of work I have seen that backfire A LOT.
