So myself, my wife, my 7 year old daughter and my really good friend are planning a trip to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Mears Michigan in August to go and enjoy some ripping around on the dunes in the JTRX and some of the other things the small town in Michigan has to offer for the weekend and I wanted to throw the invite out there to anyone who wants to join us. If you don't know what Silver Lake Sand Dunes is, please check out the website below or the video from DRC below as well. There is all kinds of stuff to do there, not just the dunes to drive on.

https://thinkdunes.com/

We live in Plainfield, IL ( a southwestern suburb of Chicago) so we are roughly 4 hours away, so plans are to drive up after work on Friday August 14th ( leave around 6:30pm) and arrive about 10:30pm and just go to our Airbnb for the night and then hit the dunes on Saturday during the day and then in the evening go and check out some live music either at the winery or brewery because they have live music every Friday and Saturday night all summer long.

So again, if anyone is around my area and is interested and wants to join us for the drive and the weekend of fun, or if there is any that wants to meet up at the dunes on August 15th and get together then, the more the merrier!

Don't forget the Chicken Shack. They also have live music and great wings!

Another thing you can do at the dunes is too get too much air over the hills.

Haha Looks like fun to me! And we'll definitely have to check out the Chicken Shack while we are there.

I second the chicken shack. Not sure what we have going on that weekend, but we may be able to make it up that Saturday. I am 30min south of silver lake.

With two recommendations, I will for sure have to check out the Chicken Shack! LOL and if you can make it out that day, just let me know and we can exchange info and meet up.

HA!!! I’ve been in exactly the same situation as the Gold Jeep pictured above. Not sure what the stock skids look like now but the older ones on the LJ Rubicon used to be “affectionately” called a shovel. They lived up to the name. I crested more than a few dunes and the front lip of the skid just dug in and would NOT let go. After a tummy tuck and Rockmen skid it was no longer an issue. Good times playing in the sand.

Haha definitely sounds like a good time! I recently picked up my truck at the end of January and having been dieing to get out and do some sort of off-roading and after seeing the DRC video and realizing the dunes were not too far from me, I said I had to go. The downfall of where I live in Illinois is that there isn't any good trails or anywhere to go do any off-roading unless you want to travel 6 plus hours away one way and when I'm limited to weekends ( since all my vacation time from work is already scheduled by my wife on trips around the world, not that I'm complaining haha ) then 12 hours round trip in the truck isn't feasible for a few hours to play in the dirt, so this will be my first outing with the truck.

Pick up the "road kill" for later.

That’s surprising!! Granted I haven’t driven through IL for many years and then it was all hiway but with the amount of waterways and lakes I’d figure there were some decent trails there.

Yes it will be! But I recently installed the AEV 2" spacer lift and 35's, so I think I should have no issues with clearance, especially when I saw DRC go through in a stock Wrangler and I've seen other fairly stock SUV's go through.

Pick up the "road kill" for later.
Sounds delicious! LOL

I'm sure there are some good ones, but those are the ones that "you have to know a guy" to know where they are LOL, but as far as known ones, I've had zero luck...

The Scrambler Sand Blast is the last week of July. Be there for the 3rd time with the '8. Good times. Had 32 or so Scramblers there last year. So many good place to eat around there within 25 miles. The Country Dairy in New Era and Bortelli's Fish are just a couple of where we go.

A weekend isn't enough. We get there on the 7/25 leaving 8/3. Watch the sunset every night then some ice cream...
