I installed a snork on my Gladiator but went with the "through the cowling" style so no cutting required.
However - years ago I installed a "cut the hood" style snorkel on my JK. Cutting wasn't bad or even that scary (there is a flange with a good half inch lip so that hides a lot of sin).
But what *DID* get me was I didn't realize there were multiple layers of hood metal when cutting and somehow, one of the layers of cutout slid down between the outer and inner skins of the side of my hood. That's right, that same sized shape cutout piece just slid right down the side of my hood between the two pieces of sheet metal that makeup the double walled hood.
Futzed with it for about an hour trying to fish it out but never did. It wasn't a big deal. I could never hear it rattling in there or anything like that. But, right up till the day I sold that Jeep, anytime you opened the hood you could hear this "sliiiiiddddeeee BANG" sound from the passengers side"
Evidently, when driving the piece would bounce its way forward toward the grill and come to rest there by the cutout. And when you opened the hood it would suddenly slide down toward the rear and bang as hit the back seam.
I just considered it a "conversation starter" and didn't worry about it. But you might want to be more careful with your cut.
