Sold my wife's 2016 JK to Driveway.com and they picked it up today. I can't say I loved it, it was as bare bones as could be (which is what she wanted), m/t, crank windows, no a/c. Gotta love my wife. She owns guns, 2 motorcycles, and when we were ordering the Jeep she said "It's a Jeep. Jeeps don't need air conditioning, if you are hot take the top off and drive faster!"I didn't love it, but it was a good vehicle that served us well. Made sure to remind Driveway that the transport driver needed to be able to drive a manual trans. Well, he could, but just barely. If the clutch is shot by the time it gets to it's destination (Brunswick Toyota in NJ according to the bill of lading), it's because the driver practically smoked it loading it onto the carrier. (I have video).
Oh well, out with the old and in with the new 2025 mojito JLU.

I loved my jk's. Alot of things are better about the JL but not the softtops. The jl/jt soft tops in the down position are embarrassing. JK had that classic look when the top was down. Jeep needs to address that.

I thought long and hard about keeping the JK and making it an off-road toy. But we got good money for it. Great money when you consider we had it almost 10yrs and sold it for only $14k less than we paid for it. Our cost to own it was something like $125/month, 15 cents a mile, and it never needed anything except basic maintenance. One set of tires, and one set of brakes, plus oil changes. It went to the dealer once, for the airbag recall.
The money that I would have spent keeping it and lift/gearing/wheels/tires/etc was instead a substantial down payment on the new JLU.
Plus, I still have the YJ to play with.

Shows about the new JL's that come with the retractable full length hardtop? They are even hard to spot I think 🤔

The full length retractable hardtop seemed cool, but it is $3000 more than the regular hardtop+Sunrider option. Also, living in an area where the roof on my house has to be rated to support at least 90lbs per square foot of snowload... having what is essentially a permanent soft top roof didnt seem like a great option. The Sunrider top is easy to keep clear (we got it on the JK when they first came out) and also easy to swap back to the freedom panels for winter.

Wow, that's a great value/mile.

I still have my 16 JK too. It's effectively my sons now. It's been dead reliable. One set of tires and brakes. The oil cooler was the only thing unscheduled I had to have fixed early on. I blame myself partly for that though as I didn't realize the cooler was plastic and was a bit overzealous putting the plug on. It can sit for a month and she'll fire right up as opposed to modern cars where I worry about the electronics killing the battery.

Oh well, out with the old and in with the new 2025 mojito JLU. Car finance fuels the dream of driving without a huge upfront cost. In the UK, over 80% of new car buyers use finance, with loans averaging £15,000. Personal contract purchase (PCP) keeps monthly payments low, often £200-£450, while hire purchase (HP) ensures you own the car. A 5-10% deposit and decent credit score can land you 8-13% APR. Check car-finance for deals from a wide range of lenders. Avoid traps like high balloon payments or mileage penalties. A smart plan keeps your budget on track. Roll into your new ride with a deal that fits your life perfectly.
Definitely a bummer about the transport driver though, nothing worse than watching someone ride your clutch like they're learning to drive all over again. At least you got it on video in case they try to claim pre-existing damage. Driveway.com seems hit or miss with their transport partners from what I've heard around here. Hope the new mojito JLU treats you both better, that's a sweet color choice! Congrats on the upgrade and here's hoping the delivery goes smoother than the pickup.
