By our calipers, it sits ~3/8" proud of the tailgate. With the 60 degree radius around the perimeter, the ingress/egress isn't compromised in any meaningful way.

Nice setup. How long is that umbrella ? is it possible to get a 9 foot diameter umbrella that is only 5 feet long when folded so it can fit lengthwise in the bed with the tailgate closed ?

The opening on our holder is 30mm, so any umbrella with that pole diameter will fit just fine. And that's a great idea to find one that's a little more compact!

Umbrella pictured is a Tommy Bahama - extension pole will not fit the mount, but does fit as shown where the poles mate. Approx 6 - 6.5 wide.

We've been using the Tommy Bahama umbrella for a couple of years now, and it's held up very well. They're on Amazon year-round, and Costco has them every Spring and Summer. If you're looking at other umbrellas, either 30mm or 1.18" pole diameter or less is required.
