Had a chance to try out all the gismos. Would not make it over this bump in 2wd or 4HI due to open diffs.

I wish there was a way to activate BLD and Select Speed in 2wd and 4HI

What does 4Lo do that makes it different? Isnt it still open diffs?
Excellent question. I did not know either until someone mentioned the difference so I had to test it out. 4lo is the only time the brake lock differentials work and the select speed works.

Brake lock differentials work by the computer sensing wheel spin and applying the brakes only to that wheel which transfers power to the wheel with traction. It is a very lousy version of lockers but works on dry terrain ok. I say it is lousy because in mud or sand it really won't work well if all tires are slipping. Watch the video closely and you will see the front driver wheel spin and then stop. That is the BLD in action.

select speed is cruise control for off road. You can start out at 1mph and use the up/down shifter to adjust speed. I set it to 3mph and let the jeep walk up the hill with out any input to the pedals.Helps minimize driver induced wheelspin.

I contacted Tazer and asked if they could program to have BLD work in 2hi and 4hi. They need a sport in the shop to write code.

When you engaged select speed did it sound like a grinding noise or parts struggling to move? It always makes a noise of concern when I have tried to use this feature. Is that just the brakes being applied all the time?

How do you engage the select speed? I must be missing something

I believe that's the ant-Lock braking system being used to control speed. Its normal. If you think its bad on the Jeep, you should experience Toyota's poorly executed version on the Tacoma.

Yes. It makes weird noises. You can turn it on with flat dirt road and see how it feels before trying on hills.

FYI The JK and every Jeep wrangler since 2007 has had BLD or a version of it. It's simply traction control. In the absence of lockers the computer applies brakes to the spinning wheel so the wheel with grip gets more torque. I cant remember if it worked in 4hi on the JK or not. My guess is it only works in 4lol because it's a safety issue and only needed at low crawling speeds.

it works with 4H I believe. Because even in 4H and turning of Electronic Stability Control by holding down the button for 5 seconds like the manual says, I still experience breaking/jerking when turning on slippery conditions (but not near as bad as if it’s turned on)

I think people getting excited about BLD, but it's simply traction control using your brakes and wheels sensors. It's in no way as good as lockers or even a limited slip dif, but in the absence of those it does help. My old JK had BLD when you went into 4hi or 4lo. Even with traction control off BLD is still there. Tocoma calls it crawl control. It's just traction control is all it is, but exaggerated for slower speeds offroad. At least that's what my research said when I looked into it with my JK because I was considering lockers at the time.

I haven't taken my JT off road yet I'm waiting on my lift and tires, but I have the Sport S max Tow and my plan was to either do a rear locker at some point or air lockers all the way around. Honestly with my old JKU Sport I never ran into a situation where I felt I needed lockers. Traction control and BLD handled things pretty well, but I live in Florida where there are a lot of rocks and it's mostly flat. If I lived out west I would want lockers for sure.

I took my JT out a few weeks ago to my gun range. Coming back there is a nice sized hill that has ruts for some good articulation. I use this hill to test out abilities since it is an inch of crust and then soft sand. Break traction and you hit the sand and a tire will just dig itself down. My WJ with quadradrive never gets stuck there. A buddy with a 08 Taco TRD needs 4wd and rear locked. My JT needed 4hi a month ago. This time I intentionally went up it in 2hi until the tires were in the ruts and got some spin. 4hi would not get it out. I moved to 4lo and engaged select speed. At 1mph setting it creaked and moaned for 3 minutes as each tire took its turn spinning and locking up. I could feel the truck try to crawl out of the ruts but as soon as a tire had traction it was lost by the computer changing brake pressure. It just rocked upward and fell back into the ruts for those three minutes until I shut it off and backed out of the ruts and went around them.

Lockers would have got me out of those ruts. My WJ has very aggressive limited slips that will lock up. I've had all 4 tires spinning in sand while I pushed against a boulder to see if I could get all 4 locked.

I know the limits of the JT Sport and since i do not plan to wheel it hard it is not the end of the world. But It really shows how much of a sleeper the WJ is since these can be bought for $2000-4000 all day long and are almost as capable as a Rubicon. The only mods I have done to the WJ is a $100 2inch spacer lift and trim the front fascia to fit 30" tires. It only gets stuck when I want it stuck or go where it should not go.

If it was not for the removable doors and roof I would have a tough time not moving over to a used power wagon or f150 fx4.
