Anyone else have a squeal when starting? I think it may be the power steering pump as I hear it in parking garages when turning too. Just a quick squeal when I start it cold then a small whine when turning.

It is a common complaint on the 2018+ Pentastar. I do not think it is looked at as a defect condition and just a characteristic of the engine.

Interesting, ok thanks. I will prob wait and just ask them to check at first oil change. It is an odd sound but doesn't seem to be causing any issues.

I have it too, really noticeable when I ran out today for lunch. My coworker was laughing because my JT turned on, then whines the whole time driving through the parking garage. Warm day here (90s), but I was parked in the garage. It stopped (or wasn’t noticeable) once I started driving through town.

Job.... always got a job...
Mine has done it as well. But only if the AC was left on during the last shutdown. With it being so hot in Florida, of course I have left it on during the day so i can cool it down with remote start. I was curious about the noise as well so i have tried at different times throughout the day to prove my theory.

Thanks for the replies. Makes me feel better knowing it’s a common issue but still seems very odd.

Thank you for asking the question and for the answers. I have it too and couldn't explain it but keep forgetting to dig into it.

My JL it squeal a little Due to pressing down on the brake when starting. The lighter I press down on the brake the less squeal I get. I’ve got to where I can tap the brake and hit the start button at the same time and it doesn’t squeal at all. It doesn’t squeal at all if I use the auto start feature. I can’t explain why but I read somewhere it has to do with the brake booster.

Thanks for the replies. It is strange and really does sound like something is slipping but am ok if others have the same noise and it isn’t actually a worn out or loose belt.
