Warning to all considering the 6MT. There have have been multiple recalls on it due to the clutch disc exploding and then causing shrapnel to fly out from the bell housing and damage other components. This can cause a catastrophic fire or permanently disable the electrical system. Jeep's warranty does not cover this damage as they say the clutch is a wear item. Outside of lemon law you will be on your own for any repairs. Your factory warranty has no vehicle replacement cost warranty and is merely interpreted by Stellantis corporate, a non American company, to fit their needs. Jeep Cares has no say in the matter. Insurance companies will soon stop covering manual Gladiators due to the amount of fires. See the multiple Jeep recalls or Jeep Clutch Recall FB group. This affects all JK wranglers and all Gladiators. You have been warned.

NHTSA campaign number: 23V116. Jeep’s own number for this recall is 19A.
Jeep is recalling Wrangler SUVs from the 2018 through 2023 model years and Gladiator pickups from the 2020 through 2023 model years with manual transmissions because a problem with the clutch pressure plate could cause a fire.
This recall is an expansion of a prior recall which did not include vehicles from as many model years.
Before the clutch pressure plate fails, drivers may notice a burning smell, clutch slippage, and/or a warning light on the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. The automaker says that it is aware of 26 customer assistance records, 36 warranty claims, six field reports, one injury, and no crashes that could be related to this issue.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Jeep at 800-853-1403.
Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.

…. You have been warned.
Please detail your PERSONAL experience with this issue. The facts of approximately 68 noted failures out of thousands produced doesn’t exactly seem like the sky is falling.

Same here.

I've have a 2020 I bought new with 12 original miles. No issue with my MT other than my own screw up one time. I've had the last pcm update, and only warranty work was 2 new steering gears and rear view mirror. Waiting to see what the new recall solution is going to be when they have it.

My OEM clutch was replaced at 2K miles. I couldn't tolerate the behaviors of it, nor could I deal with the burning smell every time I pulled off the highway. Mine was one of those that slipped constantly at highway speeds. I live in Florida, and every road trip was full of horrible smells! Dealers tried to fix it twice, then I put in a Centerforce and have never looked back.

I need to re-gear to get reverse where it is usable, but I do love my manual JT with the aftermarket clutch!

30k miles on a ‘ 20 6MT JTR with no problems. My 78 year old mom has a ‘18 JL Sahara 6MT w/50k miles and no issues. Those are my personal experiences. Yes there have been issues and the pressure plate is minimally acceptable for the torque available and would bet there were some manufacturing issues with some of those pressure plates that failed. I’m from the south but I’m not exactly poor and I don’t work for JeepCares.

I got a '22 6mt last October. I have 4k miles on it and it drives perfectly. I did find it odd that I received a recall letter in the mail last month but it says there is currently no fix yet. How can you have a recall if there's no fix?

It's their way of covering their ass in case you burn up in the thing-- without having to actually spend money to address it.

Are you really sure a recalled clutch under warranty won't be covered?

I agree Jeep's clutch design is crappy and I'm glad they're going to have to address it (there's no good reason for them to screw up something so simple).

But that's no reason avoid getting a manual if you don't want an automatic. Once the clutch is addressed (through a recalled component or aftermarket improved design), it's no longer an issue and you still have a manual.

It could be very possible there are 68 shitty manual transmission drivers.
