So I’ve got the typical overland set up with rack and RTT however I like to try out different ideas. I keep coming across the softopper soft shell and saw they also offer a tent attachment for it to extend the back long enough to extend out to the end of the tailgate when down and give tall folks a chance to sleep in the bed.

Who all here is running one, how do you like it, and what are you doing for storage for all the other stuff when you are sleeping there?

My thought is to build a removable storage system for the bed that can be removed in about an hour so I have full use of the bed when not traveling, but also be able to put it back in quickly and loaded for spur of the moment trips.

Not running that setup, but looks really useful if you are looking to keep the bed of the JT available for use.

As far as storage for your gear goes, you'll have the same options as other JT owners, the cab and whatever you can fit next to you in the bed while sleeping unless you choose to tow something or add some boxes above the Freedom Panels or on a roof rack on top of the cab.

Having said that, my tip would be to stay away from camping gear, and buy backpacking gear. It is more expensive, but also typically more durable, lighter, and more compact than camping gear. I travel full-time with a family of 3 in our JT so if you want any counsel on that end please don't hesitate to ask.

If you do end up with this setup, I'd love to see some photos of your trip and hear your thoughts on how it all worked out for you.

Best of adventure. ~ Eric

I have that setup! Only camped out once so far, but it worked out great on a 2 day rainy fishing trip.

I built a 24” wide kitchen/sleeping platform that folds out over the drawer to get the extra sleeping length.

I’m planning on a 1 night trip over Thanksgiving, so I’ll post more pics with my new lights and the bed setup.
Next big addition is bed power and a fridge.
