That's what this forum is for!Damn there is so much stuff I need to learn. Thanks for the heads up Kelkolb.
I’m pretty happy with 315/70/17 Bfg‘s on my Max tow & would recommend.Oh ok gotcha thank you, so I actually want 315/70/17.
35x12.5x17 is close to 35” diameter by 12.5” width tire on a 17” wheel. Mine are officially 34.8”, and when under load mounted measure closer to just over 33”. Different tire manufacturers and models will have differing discrepancies in mounted sizes. These tires are usually heavier rated for trucks like E load.Omg when it comes to measurements etc I'm so in the dark. Patriot what the hell is the difference from a 35/12.5/17 to a 285/70/17 ? My ADHD and patience drives me crazy when i try to figures things out like this.
if you trail ride I would not recommend. Folks on the JL forum say the sidewalls are thin and gets sliced easily. Folks on the trails here struggle even with a little mudI’m pretty happy with 315/70/17 Bfg‘s on my Max tow & would recommend.
Exactly what I have.. I would highly recommend them if your mostly street driving with light trails. They are not an MT, but they are about as good of an AT as exists.if you trail ride I would not recommend. Folks on the JL forum say the sidewalls are thin and gets sliced easily. 285x70x17 is essentially a bit smaller than a 35x12.5x17, being measured in metrics vs inches. It will be correspondingly smaller when mounted.
Tires will frequently come in both designations.
yes my oversight on the numbers. 285/70/17 are essentially 33” the 315/70/17 are essentially 35”The 285/70 is 2" smaller. The metric equivalent to your 35x12.5 is the 315/70
TallnObeseGladiatorOwner - As PyrPatriot mentions, when people mention a "35" or a "33" that's the diameter of the tire when it's at it's maximum rated pressure and not mounted to the vehicle.
Also, I would strongly discourage you from putting a 12.5 wide on your stock wheel. People do it frequently, but every tire manufacturer says the stock wheel width is too narrow for a 12.5 wide tire. Trust the manufacturers. The 285/70 is a good size, or if you want a little bigger, the 285/75 is great also. I run the 285/75 on my stock wheels and they're perfect. If you want a larger tire than those, get new wheels that are at least 8.5" wide (your stock wheels are 7.5" wide)
Both the Yokohama M/T’s and X-AT’s in a 35x12.5-17 say 8.5-11 for rim width. Not sure where you’re getting your info from.First many tire many facturers approve 12.5’s on a 7.5” rim. Actually check the websites, Yokohama’s for one.
Second 295/70/17 is a great size to fill the wheel well

And Falken is for 8.5-11 but they fit on my stock rimsBoth the Yokohama M/T’s and X-AT’s in a 35x12.5-17 say 8.5-11 for rim width. Not sure where you’re getting your info from.
Well of course they “fit” but it’s a tire wear issue and also a potential safety issue. They don’t give those ranges for no reason. That’s why tire chains generally will not install them outside the range that the manufacturer recommends. And Falken is for 8.5-11 but they fit on my stock rims
yah. But the jeep shop was happy to oblige and said it’s done all the time. Now, please elaborate on the tire wear issueWell of course they “fit” but it’s a tire wear issue and also a potential safety issue. They don’t give those ranges for no reason.
