500ish mile break in and then I'd suggest a 250W shockproof oil like Amsoil has. You are asking a lot of those axles and leverage required to turn that diameter tire.

Great to know, Ive been using 140. I'll get the 240w shockproof and once I hit 500 miles use that. Thanks for your input

What is the temp like in your area? I put 75W140 in every truck/Jeep that leaves my shop because the 75W flows better than dino oil when its below freezing and the 140 stays stable when it hits 118° here.

250W might be a bit heavy when it's cold, but it will give you the protection in the event of a wheel hop and the film strength barrier for the tiny gear contact patch the 5.13's have. It's not like a pinion spinning that fast won't heat the oil up quick in the morning?

I use the 250W in my YJ daily driver with no ill issues. It's not like I'm trying to get that last .05 mpg......Just don't want my stuff to blow up when I hit the skinny pedal!

Not cool......If that's the case. I would never hide behind a 12 mo warranty rule. Defective out of the box is defective forever?

That said.....For the price these guys are charging for a gear job, you can't take your time and do it right. $1450 for a JL/JT job? That doesn't even cover the labor in our area.
Yep...just scheduled mine to be regeared for the going rate a reputable shop in the PNW...$3200. Northridge is a bit cheaper and certainly reputable, but are 1.5+ hour drive away which is not convenient for a two day job. I miss the $1k per axle days!

Cheers

Just experience from my current setup:

Have the 2021 Rubicon gasser
Magnuson supercharger
Stock axles with 5:13 revolution gears
Clayton 3.5” overland + kit falcon piggyback adjustable shocks
Heavy belly plating
17” wheels zero offset with 37”x13.5” tires (gladiator A/T)

25k total miles, 20k with the Magnuson, the last 5k with above setup I have had zero issues this far

when and if I eventually decide to do an axle swap I will go with the following:

DS Ultra 70 Portal Competition Front and rear Axle JT

Anyone on the forum you know running these? I was expecting them to be more $$$$ because of the portal axles but they are inline with alternatives. Look sweet!

You better want to run 42"+ tires with those axles since you will need at least a 2-3" lift if you want your suspension to work right. I'm turned off just because the fictional losses weight, and extra maintenance......What about parts availability in 10 years?
