Last Monday after work I was driving from a stop sign at a very low acceleration. Low RPMs, and very light throttle And second and third gear felt a surging. At first, I thought it was a misfire, tried it in manual shift mode, and it still happened. It felt like the transmission stopped putting power down, and then, for a brief moment, reapplied the power.

Did this 5-6 times or so in a couple minutes of driving. Once I stopped for gas and restarted the engine it’s not happened again.

hoping it’s a one time thing.

3.6 automatic, 16,000 miles on the odometer.

anyone else experienced this?

Mine did something similarly weird a few days ago. Slowly accelerating from a stop it shifted normally 1-2-3 then, immediately after the shift to 3rd, it felt like I tapped the brakes hard. Then it was fine again and upshifted normally to 4th and above. The "brake tap" feeling happened well before the shift to 4th should have occurred so I'm led to believe they are unrelated. I could repeat it easily. With more acceleration it did not do it. The next day I couldn't get it to do it at all. There were tons of codes when I checked it. I didn't write them down because they were in odd modules and I thought it was probably related to disconnecting the gateway module. One was an ABS code for implausible data from the ECM, or something like that, though. It was raining the day it had the problem. Dry now. Not sure if that is related to the problem.

You mentioning codes, reminded me that I did check it with Jscan afterwards and saw no codes.

mine could almost be described similarly as yours, accelerating with a quick tap on the break, and the release of the break being the surge feel.

sounds like a sticky valve in the transmission. fluid may be cooked. do you tow often?

hmmm…
yeah, I was thinking some sort of temporary blockage in the transmission. I rarely tow, and when I do, it’s a 3500 lb boat less than 1.5 miles Each way. Boat ramp is basically across the street from where I store it. Max tow 4.1 gears And only 16k miles on it.

you ever get transmission up to temp? sometimes getting hot as possible safely breaks things loose. or you can just take it in and have the fluid level checked. could have a small leak.

It might not have been all the way up to temp.. not sure. Might have them check fluid level As well.

My 2022: 25000k manual will surge about once a week after sitting for 12 or more hours. I simply use the surge for 1st and 2nd and it goes away. Most recently first occurrence was the A (auto stop and start) wouldn’t engage and an A appeared on my dash. It wouldn’t show the gear I was in. Restarted and all was well.
