I purchased two pairs of Rigid 360 Series 6” lights (four lights total) that I plan to mount on the roof. Rigid told me 12 AWG wire can handle the amperage for all four lights.

What type of T-splice works best for a weatherproof and clean look? Should I just strip the wire, solder, and use heat shrink? Amazon has T-tap connectors with a lot of reviews, but I’m not sure how solid the tapping connection is.

JMHO………
Personally, I would not use a T-Splice on a pair of off road lights. And 12AWG is rated for, I believe, 20 Amps. 16AWG for 10 amps should be more than enough For what you’re planning on.
Also, I’ve seen t splices not seal up and cause all sorts of problems when they start to corrode. Maybe look for some solder seal heat shrink environmental end to end connectors.. Maybe check good ole Amazon. That and a cheep heat gun. It’ll last for years without issue and be way slimmer in your wire bundle.
Again… JMHO…..

^^ I agree on not using t-tap/splices

I wire everything with 12awg wire......that way if later down the road I want to add something larger or brighter, its already ready.

Ok I was skeptical about t tap connectors.. what do you guys suggest for joining 4 wires from each light to the main wire if you don’t recommend splice?

Once upon a time, I made a thread for a similar question. It has since then been “deleted”….lol

I’m going the solder seal connection route. #12 wire and 20 amp fuse for me. Two 7” round lights, 80 watts each I think (hence the conservative #12 wire)

Would that be something like this? How do you heat shrink the t joint?

Liquid electrical tape; it works but can be sloppy. I also zip tie the extra wire to one of the existing as a strain relief. Wrap with traditional electrical tape, then cover with plastic wire loom.

Others may have a better idea.

The lights I buy all come with Deutsch connectors. The wiring harness can be used as-is or chopped up to fit my needs. Amazon sells built T harnesses with the Deutsch connectors on them.

If you're going to be splicing wires, doing them in multiple groups that are two to one is easier to work with. Trying to splice four is a lot easier using a bus bar. It also makes life easier when it's time to swap a light assembly.

If you use splices put some dielectric greae on it and wrap up with tape
