The problem removing them is that there are two connectors and they are wired tightly together into one bundle. Getting one out before the other is a pain, and trying to remove both at the same time is impossible. What I found is that by taking a cord/wire and looping it around the single wire for a plug and gently pulling down it removes it much easier when I press the tab. Then go to the next. I do this without removing any panels. Hope that makes sense?

To install the extension cable back in. I cut a clothes hanger into 2, 8" long pieces. Then I taped each plug to one of the hanger pieces. Then pushed each plug into place.
Nice tip. While getting the connectors out was a bear, getting the extension cables back in was even more difficult.
