Tekonsha Brake Control Wiring Harness

Just installed a Tekonsha Primus IQ model 90160 brake controller and a 3014-P harness taking a chance on the harness working with the Gladiator. It does. All brake and light functions work perfectly.

Yes but this harness does not have the diode so if you press the override while disconnected from a trailer you will get a xmas tree on your dash from feedback. So you should not use this harness without a diode. unless there is something different about that specific controller.

What diode rating is needed to convert the harness? I assume it needs to be on the red wire? Blocking the controller?

I bought the Tekonsha harness that is specific to the Gladiator, plug and play. My local trailer dealer had it in two days for $20. I'd recommend just buying that.

Already have the 3014-P harness in route tomorrow. And I have to have it functional by Friday. I rummaged through my drawer here of components and found some P6KE24A diodes. They're good for 18 amps, so that should work.

Diode in Red wire - blocking signal FROM controller INTO the brake light wiring.
Red is brake light signal,
Brake output to trailer brakes is blue,
power to controller (+12 volts) is black,
white wire is ground (-).

I used all Redarc parts so that if I had any issues, there was one point of contact.
Others have done differently....apparently the Tekonsha harness is a direct plug-in with the diode in the red wire already.

Still no problems with my 3014-P. Tow quite often. What “override“ brings on a Christmas tree array of lights When disconnected from a trailer? Manual braking slide switch?

U have the diode so it wont matter to u.

No real power flow so any small diode will work. It's the brake light wire not the trailer brake power wire.
You'll never see multiple amps thru that. In fact the Redarc harness diode is less than the diameter of the wire.
