You'd think a 64 year old man could just sit still and relax on a dreary day, but I cant.
This idea has been eating away at a back corner of my mind for some time, and with colder weather finally setting in in central VA, today was as good as any to give it a shot.
It's pretty well documented across the interwebs that the Mojave FOX shocks can be noisy, particularly in colder weather.
Mine were doing more of a "cluck" than a squeak, like the seal bites a bit on the shaft in its home position and tries to hang on longer than it should.
I've been using this Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions from day one on this vehicle, and the stuff is slicker than snail snot, so why not give it a try on the shocks?
I will note that when I removed the lower mount bolts they were definitely NOT torqued to the spec of 89 ft lbs.
Felt more like 45
The AEV lift was installed by the original owner, so I guess I should have checked it. Can't blame Toledo for that one.
Was that what was making the noise? We'll soon know.
But I already had gone that far, and wasn't going to turn back now.

Removed both shocks and thoroughly cleaned everything. Note: the 3M adhesive cleaner will absolutely wipe the barcode sticker clean. Oh well. I was more cautious on the second one. This cleaner is very handy to have around by the way.
Applied the Hybrid Solutions to to the shafts and cycled the shocks about a dozen times. Applied some more and let it set and then polished to a shine.
I also noticed that the small screw on the reservoirs were rusting a bit. So they were cleaned up and repainted.
Put everything back in place and torqued to specs.
The polish needs to set for a while, so I'll give it a day or two and see what happens.
