Gotcha! I totally understand what you are saying now. Thank you so much for the follow up point. I totally missed your point, to be honest with you at first but now, it all makes sense.

Yes, my lease has an option to buy, which is the way I have owned my previous Jeeps but I totally understand your point and concern. I really appreciate you looking out for me. To be honest with you, I really swore to myself and my wife that "I would keep this Jeep stock this time" lol but of course the modding bug has bitten me ?? I really love the way my JT looks stock but seeing your builds here makes me wanna throw money at it ???

I have reconsidered my opinion on jumping from my gas JTR to a diesel JTR due to the financial screw up and the horror stories regarding the unreliable diesel ticking engines. And yes, I know and fully understand the issues we hear about on this forum are potentially a small percentage of the really happy diesel campers wheeling out there. Nevertheless, I don't see myself taking this risk, specially knowing the luck I have ???

Thank you so much everyone once again for your honest opinions and valuable time!

Godspeed everyone!

Cheers!

Mario.

Sorry, I can see how I might not have been super clear on that point.

But like the last commenter stated, doing modifications (esp driveline) to a leased vehicle is a really, really bad idea. You want to lease something that is as close as possible to your desired end goal as possbile. You’ll have problems when turning it in and you’re dumping significant money into something that will never be “yours”. You won’t ever have trade equity on it and you will never be able to sell it to another enthusiast (the only way you could ever possibly recover any money from the cost of regearing the truck).

But, sounds like we talked you down anyway :)

Just stuff to consider in the future. You still have a great truck, enjoy!

I meant to respond directly to you but my reply must have malfunctioned, lol

Please see my response above this message and thank you so much once again for your help.

Cheers!

Mario.

I have the ecodiesel. It’s a fantastic engine, great power (for a 3.0) and it’s a sure joy… but like anything there are pluses and minuses…

If I had the 3.6, I’d roll with it, use the money for something else…. Like an amazing trip somewhere.

A jeep is a life enablement tool, use it for what it is! Focus on building memories… not just building a jeep.

Find any vehicle that has a forum and people will complain about this engine or that one. I fully realize that folks have had issues with this 3.0. So many more have not. I gave up my Mojave for the diesel. Do not regret it all. Absolutely love driving this thing. And that Mojave drove like a dream.

From a financial aspect, you're probably making the right decision. Have you plugged your info into KBB or any of the other sell online services? Prior to supply chain issues, I never found those to be very accurate. For some reason, they are pretty darn close now. I actually got more on my trade than KBB said. At least better than the average number. I would at least look while trade values are high. If you're too far upside down, keep what ya got till the numbers are better. I've found the last 6 - 12 months of a lease can be palatable. At worst you pay your last few payments up front. But at that point, may as well wait till the lease is up. Unless you're going to go over on miles. Then it's a math game.

Right now, the 3.6 gasser is the only powerplant for the Mojave, which tells me that there are significant drawbacks to any others that are currently produced by Mopar.
The Mojave is designed for high speed desert 2-tracks, aka jumps. Jeep chose to stick with the lightest engine offering for this platform for that reason, and even then they still had to upgrade it for strength in a few key areas. Add another several hundred pounds for the diesel, and it's no wonder why Jeep didn't even bother considering a diesel Mojave.

Hi fam! I know this sounds pretty dumb but I’m seriously considering trading my 2021 gas JTR for an eco diesel JTR. I am 13 months into my 4 year lease which makes me turn to this forum and see if anyone has gone through something like this before. Am I asking for trouble by trading my current JT (financially speaking/being upside down on my trade)

thank you so much for your help!

Mario.
I would wait before getting a diesel. We’re about to hit a diesel shortage in this country and prices are already starting to shoot up. In a week it went from 5$ to 6.50$ a gallon

I'm not worried about diesel shortage. This country runs on diesel. No diesel, no deliveries of any kind, including gasoline!

I'm also old enough to have lived through the "energy crisis" of the 70s. Bunch of lies to manipulate the market. History is repeating itself. I snipped a comment from Wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970s_energy_crisis :

" Although there were genuine concerns with supply, part of the run-up in prices resulted from the perception of a crisis. "

Per Forbes:
" Even as the U.S. grapples with one of the worst diesel shortages on record, U.S. companies are exporting more than a million barrels of distillates a day. The short and simple answer is that companies are doing it because they can, and because they are making more money doing this than selling it in the U.S. Consumers may complain, but ultimately these companies are trying to make as much money as they can, and that means selling products to the highest bidders.

Prices may indeed go up, but there's no shortage of diesel. The next election should be interesting. I'll leave that there.

What's also interesting is I've seen gas prices jump to $5/gallon locally, now back down to $3.59. The price of diesel is still about $5.30/gallon, and doesn't vary much like gas prices. YMMV.

Wow didn’t hear about that but yeah not a good time to order a diesel. I don’t drive a diesel but I work on commercial fishing boats and they’re all concerned they won’t be able to fish if the shortage gets too bad. This country will shut down without diesel

There is no Diesel shortage, it's bullshit.

I traded my Gasser Gladiator after the motor grenaded; the new one started making the same sounds as the one it replaced. It's nice to run 37's and still get 22mpg rolling around town.

Honestly, up until the moment below, I LOVED that EcoDiesel. Even after I still have considered getting another one hoping that they fixed the old issues with the ones in the Rams. I definitely haven't heard of as many issues with the JT. I'd say do it if it makes sense for you.

my local dealer said they cant even get oil to do oil changes for the Diesel engines right now and they are turning away everyone who needs one.
