That's kind of a garbage-level installation. One of those cheap wire taps is already not to my liking, but having it sit down low, outside and at the spot most prone to salt, dust, and crud is asking for corrosion to get into that expensive OE wiring harness.

The previous owner or original selling dealer installed one of those cheap brake light modulators with a wire tap inside the tailgate of my truck. I ended up having to replace the entire tailgate subharness.

Hard pass.

I agree with the wire tap. I didnt want to splice into the factory harness so I bought a Diode Dynamics trailer wire harness adapter ($30) and spliced into that instead. I soldered the connections as well.

I finally did purchase, the Seequenced third brake light. It’s hard to imagine something so cheaply made, can cost $210. But everything is expensive. It is an awesome light. On YouTube, their video says that you get a $30 refund, once they receive your old light, in trade. In communicating with Garrett, he said they only give a $20 refund. So I suggested they make an updated video. He agreed to give me $30 upon receipt of old brake light. He said the reason for the change in refund price, was because they get some pretty beat up lights, sent back to them. They do respond pretty quickly, to emails and such. Seem to be a really good company, but still scratching my head, over what you get and what you pay for it. Obviously they’re still in business, so they must be selling quite a few.

I kept my stock third brake light when I installed a Seequenced. $30 (at the time) was not enticing enough for me to give up a spare 3rd brake light.

We upgrade brake lights
Hey D_JT! Garrett here!
Thanks again for your business!
It's quite the process to modify one of these 3rd brake lights. Re-engineering the circuit board to be Sequential took weeks to create. Check out our latest youtube upload HERE.
Thanks again!

I went with these, and after 4 months it is still working great, plus I still have one extra.
As soon as I can get someone to hit the brakes I'll snap a video!
