Have you tried a water spot remover prior to polishing? If the spots are due to the minerals and contamination that was in the water that dried on the surface, then a water spot remover will remove this nasty stuff so it doesn't break free and scratch the surface during polishing. Once you remove the contaminants from the surface, let the polishing begin!! Have fun!

I'm honestly not sure but I think I trapped a lot of it in the ceramic last spring. So I need to cut through that and get back to the clear, then do a good protection treatment.

I'm a little of both.
I'm not going on a trail that's going to put deep scratches on the paint, but I'll do trails that do require the vehicle's unique capabilities.
At the same time, I have always been a clean car person. As long as I can get back off what I put on it I'm happy.

For sure. I'm both types as well.

I've got a JK that has a body that is completely covered with trail scratches so deep you can catch a fingernail on them. It doesn't bother me in the least.

Otherwise, I keep all my other vehicles clean & tidy, and I'm not afraid to break out the DA polisher and perform a 2-stage paint correction, whether it be on an isolated scratch or the entire vehicle.

If you decide to go down through the ceramic, be careful, the clear coat on these trucks is not very thick.
Don't want to risk getting into the base coat color.

Years ago, I parked my new Durango at a hotel in Phoenix for a "Park & Fly". While away on vacation for a week in July, the hotel irrigation system operated on the surrounding grounds. Hard water stains on half of the vehicle in 110-degree sunshine. Not a good combo. Soaked the entire vehicle with good old-fashioned vinegar. Still took a bit of elbow grease and stunk up the local car wash but was able to strip off all of the scale (along with any wax that was on it). Polished it back to new.

Vinegar helps break down those small mineral deposits a bit too. Just soak a paper towel, wipe it on, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. It's not night and day, but it loosens the crap up enough to help whatever else you're using do the job better.

If you want to step up your polishing game a little, ditch the Fine Cut Cleaner and use Meguiar's 205 instead. The 205 does a really nice job as a final finishing compound. On any areas that need more correction, use 105 first and follow with 205. The 105/205 are Meguiar's latest non-diminishing abrasive technology and are IMO much easier to use and produce better results than the 'old school' Fine Cut 2.

Collinite makes a nice cleaner and wax combo, I tend to hate mixtures but I use it on my boat and it does amazing on my truck as well.

And/or…

Boat bling hot sauce works awesome on water spots on my boat and again amazing on my cars when needed.

A 50/50 mix of white vinegar and distilled water will eliminate water spots. It’s what I use on my boat to remove water spots.
